Title: V6 - Engine sump removal

I want to take the bottom of my sump pan off - basically to give it a dam good clean out.

Any ideas on how to do it?

Drain oil.  ;)  ;)
Undo the M6 bolts and gently lever the pan off bearing in mind that it's glued on with instant gasket.
There's a level sensor bolted to the bottom of the pan.
This is what Haynes calls the lower pan, technically, the lump of ally it's bolted to is the sump.  ;) ;)
I was sold an instant gasket/glue that came in a shortened silcone sealer tube .... and was grey to re-fit mine.  :y

Thanks Andy - noted about draining the oil  :y

I guess the level sensor inside will "just" unplug so that the pan can be removed.

I'm expecting it to be pretty horrible inside judging by the state of the oil that came out some weeks ago.

You might want to check out the grey sealent for this application Vauxhall specifie this grey one for oil cooler top cover so its obviously water proof, but i suspect it may not be oil resistant over long period.  For example it does'nt recomend this for use on cam covers when gaskets are changed, maybe worth a check

IIRC the sensor is bolted to the pan and the wiring goes up to a rubber bung towards the back/top of the sump & is held place with an E clip type clip. The loom plugs in there. The wiring on mine was quite brittle & one of the joints broke. I soldered it back in place & all is still well.  :y

i used wyn's gasket maker on mine rob  :y

not leaked yet  ;D

just make shure you clean both surfaces with a bit of carb / brake cleaner before you bolt it all back together  ;)

don't over-torque bolts on re-fitting
