I need to replace one of my oxygen sensors. I last did this when i changed the sutobox due to one being damaged. The one i fitted was an after market one and the lead was miles too long. I doubled it up and cable tied the excess together & tucked it up to keep it away from harm, or so i thought. Anyway, over time it has become free, dropped down & become damaged. Hence the need for a replacement.
My problem is that alot of websites list the same part as a replacement with a 560mm lead. Thsi is at least twice the lingeth it should be so i sought an alternative.
Vauxhall advise that the Autobox one is no longer avaliable & to use tha manual one. My dealer does not stock this so i cannot check for visible differences & I am not going to fork out £118 without seeing it first.
So i went to GSF this morning where i got one for £25. Tho only problem i can see is that i wil have to use the old block connector & splice in the new sensor & lead that came with it.
Is the wiring quite straight forward, as in colour coding or is it more complicated?
Any advice gratefully received.
Thanks Jez

Its pretty simple although I would personaly be looking at Loo Knee or one of the other breakers for a genuine (second hand) part.

Cheers again Mark. I may have to consider that if this method fails. £25 under the circumstance is worth a chance.

there's a subtle difference here. At some point they changed from a shielded wire to four individual wires. I can only assume that this was at the point they introduced pre-cats.
each is easy, but the continuity of the shielding must be maintained if it's that type.
incidentally, I extended a pair of lambda sensors at the weekend - non-shielded, and was able to solder in extensions easily. make sure to use heat-shrink on the soldered connections.

Yup, it was the drive by wire setups that had the 4 wire lambdas, the 2.5 and 3.0's only had the 3 wire variants.
I also have extended a few on the 4 wire units without any major issues when relocating the post cat o2's
