Hi all my question is what is best auto or manual. My car has just been cat c and waiting for a cheque so will be buying another omega. If anyone has got a facelift model for sale any engine size must be good condition then please PM me with details and pics.
-
If your after a nice facelift model then have a look in the for sale section josh usually has some nice examples :y
As for the question in the title of your post it is personal preference, mine is auto due to doing 30-40K a year mainly on the motorway so i say AUTO is best ;D ;D

Cool thanks for the reply.

;D thanks Dave...I'll have to slip you another £50.
When it comes to auto v manual, it really uis down to personal preference. I prefer manual, so that's why I waited for a 2003 2.6 Elite manual in black to come along, took a long time...but that's all I wanted. I also have a 2003 3.2 Elite auto estate, it's a nice car to drive, but I don't think I could live with an auto all the time.

There are some questions which have no right or wrong answer .........
Blonde or Brunette for example :o
Personal preference, simple as that

This question has been discussed loads of times, there is only one possible answer, in my opinion..... ;D ;D ;D

My impression (from very limited experience) is that autos are only good for 150k miles & then then you're into bills of £2k to replace .. so if you can get a lowish mile auto and don't do excessive miles .........
-
its got to be auto..it suits the nature of the vehicle. migs are comfortable cruisers, exec, wafting vehicles that are suited best to laid back driving style and enjoy the comfort also if you are considering towing with a mig and there is isnt many better for the money! i find it easier with auto :)

Thats news to me. The AR25/35 will take you to the moon and back, several times. Haven't heard of many AR35's to have died before the X30 tbh.
IMO, I have an Auto, my last one was an Auto. I am piggy in the middle as I prefer Manuals, but the Omega (with a 6pot) lends itself so nicely to an Auto Transmission. Manual's are noticeably quicker. Anyone who says not, is a liar, or has never driven one.

What the.! :o :o :o :o
Costs about £100 for a replacement box, and DIY its free, even at a garage is only a 2 hour job with a lift, so £200-300 max! :-?

Thanks for that jordan681 had a look beautiful motor but over my price range, but thanks any way.

as long as you can drain/replace the transmission fliud and filters regularly then an auto box should last indefinitely, :) unless you somehow put it in reverse whilst travelling along the m40 ::)
on older mercs the atf and filters were a 40k service item, newer ones are sealed for life, hence and old merc will still drive long after the body has rusted off, where as a new one will (probably) get binned through box failure before it reaches 100k. same story with fords. mk2 granada box will do 2-300k and a couple of seasons banger racing, a mk3 box will be dead by 100k. had 4 mk3 granadas previously, and not one had its original box in :-/
if your buying the car for effortless driving get an auto, if you want to drive it,get a manual. :y

Technically, you shouldn't be able to do that. The software wont allow it to change into a 'gear' unless the conditions for that gear are correct.
-
Like already said it depends what mood your in!!
Manuals are quicker off the mark I think, but Auto's certainly aren't far behind.
Auto's are lovely on the motorway and in traffic :y
Mrs has an Auto
I have a Manual :y

;D technically , you shouldn't do lots of things ::), but that's another thread... :-X
Mrs has an Auto
I have a Manual
that just about sums it up imo :)
-
Easy.
If you wanna drive a car like you stole it, then has to be a manual, which then would make the prefered Omega the MV6
However if you are getting old like me, then it's got to be comfort + Auto for tootling arround in, therefore the best Omega for the job is an Omega.

The answer to such questions is, of course, to have one of each. :y
..and the big advantage with Omegas is that it doesn't matter if they meet. ;D
;)
I must say, I need a regular manual "fix", and for enthusiastic driving autos are pants, IMHO. For commuting and urban driving autos are less tedious though.

manual blondes are much less of a worry than automatic ones... :)
-
Forgot to say that autos really need a decent surfeit of engine power and nice, flat torque delivery to be satisfying, IMHO.
I'd much rather have a manual if the car is a diesel, revvy 4 pot, a bit underpowered or turbocharged.

My day to day car is a manual diesel, with the auto Omega for play.
I had a manual MV6 from new once - so its horses for courses
-
manuals must be more popular - I've just dne my ninth auto-to-manual conversion, whilst I've never even been asked to do a manual-to-auto conversion.

Not quite... I have an auto V6 that i'm trying to put a manual TD into but as an auto, so I have all the bits.... except the TD autobox (torque convertor and bellhousing are different) although with any luck that should be in my hands by the weekend. As for auto -V- manual, I loved my manual civvy spec Senator, but it was going to get me into sooooo much trouble. I have now no choice but to drive an auto as DVLA have stuck all sorts of restrictions on my licence since being diagnosed with MS, I'm still generally fit and well, and no one would know except sometimes I fall over a bit ;D (without the aid of alcohol ;) )

hello Richard.
if you hadn't guessed, it's Stuart here......!

Preferance, auto, too much traffic these days to warrant pessing around pressing pedals every 10 seconds.
I find auto quicker off the line, while manual driver is lifting the clutch, the auto is up the road.
Keep an auto atf fresh and it should last the life of the car I suppose? Car makers don't want the box serviced as it appeals on cost through lack of servicing, and when the box fails they hope the owner will buy another car instead. Which often happens.
With a manual there is the clutch replacement and the dreaded dual mass fly wheel expense, although more economical and quicker.
