Title: Electrical problem
Post by: barclay03 on 05 August 2010, 18:02:01
Didnt know if it was common or not, so i thought id ask incase...

Last week the fuse for my PAS blew... fair enough, changed it and all seemed well. A few days ago my airbag light came on driving to work  :-/ then today on the way home, sittin at traffic lights and the PAS blew again, although this time it was a bit different, all electrics reset themselves (cd player, clock etc).... :-?

Tried another fuse in the PAS slot, switched ignition on and it blew straight away.

Is this a common fault or am i going to have to actually do some work?  ;D

cheers!

You also need to check what other items are on this fuse.

Mine blows if i catch the drivers side seat geater switch, think the heater pads are fubar.

Also has climate control on the same fuse.

Worth considering other systems on the fuse.

Appears to be a wire thats rubbed through against the brake servo and short circuited. Only found that out due to it all catching fire earlier tonight  ::)

Really sorry to hear this :'(.

It's not the first Omega to have had a fire start in this area. Previously, the power sounder seems to have been the culprit but not so in this case?

It would be interesting to see a photo of the area; maybe we can glean something from it which will help it happening in future?

Kevin

I disconnected the power sounder a while ago as the battery was going and it was doing my head in goin off all the time lol

From what i remember of my quick poke around, the cable going past the servo (cant remember what it was) had either melted or rubbed itself and earthed onto the servo (theres scorch marks on it to show this).

Theres not much damage from the small fire etc as i was quick to react - i had investigated, tore the scuttle panel off and put most of it out before my passenger even amanged to get out the car  ;D hoping not much done electrically though!

See how it goes, MOT and tax are due and tbh im gettin fed up of fixing it, so might ultimately be time for it to come off the road :-/
