Anyone got Tech2 capability near Birmingham Airport? I've got a bit of a misfire particularly under load on 2.5V6. I strongly suspect electrical. (Diss Pack, I don't think leads, what about timing of injection??) Fault code says wrong timing signal. New crank sensor made no difference. Can be idled above 2.5K generally OK but doesn't like hard throttle and low idle is always on 5 pots! Would Tech2 pinpoint the fault before I go and buy loads of stuff I don't need?

Tech2 won't identify HT problems (plugs, leads, HT side of DIS)
Plugs are cheap. If you don't know how old they are fit a new set first.

The plus are new though. I could try leads and diss nut I just got a feeling they're not the problem.
What about injectors? Any thoughts?

Wellung! Sorry mate, I mus appear very ignorant not to have even responded to your most kind offer; I didn't see this reply until now for some reason. (I have been working in the Mid East since the economy in blighty fell of the edge of a cliff if that's any excuse...)
I've been tinkering for a while and almost the only thing left is to change the leads I hope (new set on the way). I've stripped and checked the timing (new belt), replaced crank sensor and dissy already.
If the new leads don't solve the problem, could it be this niggling thought...
A low life back street guy replaced the cam seals for me. Sound job for 3 hours then the untightened belt slipped. I had to rebuild the heads etc. She ran lovely after but eventually began to loose a cylended at low revs and under load; getting us to where we are now but, when I rebuilt, there was a wire crossing the front of the engine arriving at a connector on the front at the driver's side. (could this be a knock sensor connector). Anyway, after I had put the new belt etc on I realised I'd routed the wire behind the rear cambelt cover. Could it be that this wire is getting hot and the insulation breaking down??? would such a thing cause my misfire??? She fires fine over 1,500 revs and up to temperature.
Any thoughts would be interesting.
Again, Sorry for the apparent ignorance. I would just note that with 4 kids and working overseas, sometimes it does take me a very long time to get my issues to the top of the pile I'm afraid.

Do the paperclip test, that will show if you have a knock sensor issue :y
Knock sensor will put the EML on though, so if no light, I wouldnt expect that to be a problem.
Code test still worthwhile though, you never know what it may show up :y

Way back in time when the problem started, I paperclipped it and got the result "wrong timing signal".
I changed the crank sensor with no effect and still the same code. Panicking I got a timing kit and checked the timing and pulleys. All spot on...
No EML.
Eventualy went for the diss last weekend no improvement then today... new leads and PROBLEM SOLVED!!!
I wish I'd done them with the diss though. What a pig that was but hey ho and off we go (hopefully).

ZULU you don't know how "eventual" this has been... I've had it off the road since about May 2007!! ;D ;D ;D
It's been SORNED for a while but I couldn't give up on her. The saga has been a very long one but I think I can get around anything in the engine bay now.
New cats I think then MOT and hopefully I'll be cruising again. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D :y
