Title: Valve seals
Post by: Ralph on 09 August 2010, 19:44:28
I think the valve seals on 2.6 are on the way out.
On first startup each day I get a puff of blue smoke, it's not using very much oil though so I guess it has to be the valve seals.
Question is will this affect the cats come next MOT.
I imagine replacing the seals will be a horrendous cost.

Depends whether you can do the work yourself, the seals are probably about £1 each (they were for my Senator 7 or 8 years ago) . On top of that you have head gaskets and labour if you're going to get someoneelse to do it for you.

I'm still planning this project but I have not yet collected the courage... Is it a bad one? Heads off so some nuts and bolts to open but is it otherwise straight forward or is there any "hidden nice-ones" that might be trouble?
