You cant say you dont like them until you drive them, it's a thrilling machine.
i made the rims bigger on photoshop but couldnt undo it. :P
Just raced a BMW M3 on the motorway, i'm glad to say i was faster!!!!

Faster than an M3? Was the M3 a bit poorly or was the driver on his last legs?
-
i think the blokes wife told him to slow down but i keep telling myself that i was faster, makes me fell better!!!! ;D

You cant race an M3 and a 525i properly on the motorway. Both would be up to dangerous speeds in no time at all.

unfortunatly mine isnt an m5, it only goes around 135-140 mph.

Very nice cars, I used to own a 540i sport with 6-speed manual, was a great car -- bit of a poor man's M5 but it wasn't far behind performance wise, half the price and was more reliable (no VANOS unit failures!). Very subtle looking car, considering it packed a V8.
I'm going to stick with my 840 for now as my main car because I like the rarity and I have absolutely no need for more than 2 seats, but if I do decide to go back to a "sensible" car then the E39 M5 is very high up the list of candidates :)

Oh and you can be confident the M3 driver was half asleep or his engine was running on 3 cylinders... because my 540i would have been obliterated by one, let alone a 525i. I had a little run in with a 330Ci when I had the 540i, and I only just crept past him at full chat shifting up over 6,000 RPM.

Your only chance of beating an M3 is when he hits his speed limiter (165mph?), which your rather gutless 525 won't get near.
Driven a fair few 3/5/7 series (family of BMW lovers), don't really like any of them. Certainly not a bad car, but overhyped imho, so I can't see me owning one in the near future. Also, getting a reputation of a junior rep's car, much like the XR3i in the late 80s.
I'm also familiar with how desperately unreliable BMWs have become - the notion that they are more reliable than other cars is incorrect. And the dealers make some of our Vauxhall friends look almost skilled.
-
Normally the only way to beat M3 is to connect a caravan behind.. ;D
or give it to a bad driver..
Their gear and hp/weight ratios + cam angles are very different from
525..
ps: I confess I love them..

it could of been a CI but it had an m3 kit on it and on my life, we kept up with it, we were going 130mph!!!! ::)

A ci would easily outrun a 525 - more power, lighter etc.

There are some people here using M3 sticker behind their
320,325,328 ..This is not counted ;D

must of been playin us about :(

I suspect so, M3s are stupendously quick, quick enough to make up for the awful looks. Unless is was a 320 with a go faster badge

I've never driven an M3, or an S4, but i've been driven in both. I've never, ever felt such acceleration. Dont know if I could be trusted with either, the grin on my face lasted a week.

Obviously not been on a bike then ;) Makes both the M3 and S4 seem rather pedestrian 8-)
They are quick as far as cars go. Some stats for the E46 M3:
343 HP
0-60 MPH - 4.8 seconds
1/4 Mile - 13.1@105 MPH
Top Speed: 155 MPH (electronically limited)
The new model is manic, 400 BHP V8, and fantastic handling to boot. Nice 8-)

New model..Completely different and perfect machine..
