Hi Folks! I'm a newbie to Omega Owners Forum, having just owned mine for 6 weeks or so. I'm turning to you guys 'cos my local mechanic can't sort the fault and needs inspiration. I read a similar topic regarding poor performance but the poster indicated that it was mainly when under load and the engine idled ok.
Anyway, I'm running a 2001 2.6 V6 AUTO on LPG. It's a tidy car and seems well looked after with an almost FSH.
My problem:intermittently, usually at speeds of 60-75mph it loses power when I put my foot down ie, has difficulty increasing speed. It will maintain the same speed all day and eventually builds speed slowly. It doesn't conk out. If I stop and restart the car, the fault clears immediately and may or may not occur for some time. It feels like she drops down to only 5 cylinders. This happens on both LPG and Petrol. The car has been fully serviced, all filters changed. New Iridium plugs fitted for the LPG, HT leads checked, new timing belt and fan belt, new water pump. Some water from the LPG system had been condensing and collecting around one of the plugs causing corrosion;- this has been remedied. There is no fault code stored. When this fault happens, the car idles very bumpily but doesnt conk out. The fault occurred prior to having all this work done but still does it. Any ideas??? I'm near Carrickfergus, Co. I wouldn't have thought so because the fault is there on both LPG and petrol ;)

How about checking the dual ram induction system especially the vacuum supply pipes and solenoid valves? I had similar probs a long time ago this was the cause, plenty of info available on the forum

I had this problem on my 2.2 and it was a faulty crank sensor funnily enough :-? after a few weeks of exactly the problems you describe, it finally gave up the ghost altogether & the car refused to start! >:(

Blimey, some random thoughts on here so lets answer a few:
Multiram - this will cuase some power loss but not huge, it mainly helps low down torque but does not slug power massively and certainly not to the extent described....it certainly would not cause a cylinder to drop.
Fuel pump - That would be a serious power loss and cut out and would not affect LPG at all
Crank sensor - not unheard and hence why we need to see if any fault codes are present
A few concerns for me here:
1) You state the plug leads have been checked yet this engine does not have any
2) It randomly happens
So in the case of 1) I am concerned as this is a coil per plug setup and it requires specialist knowledge to test these correctly
Does this truely randomly happen as in ok one minute and not the next or is it a case of once it happens thats it until a re-start?
Also, can you please read the engine fault codes and report back.

How was this checked? With what code reader? Or via the pedal trick? Please see maintenance for paper clip test, in there you'll see the pedal trick. Count the flashes, post the 4 digit code. If not done so already.

Thanks everyone for your input. Further to my last post, I need to clarify a few things as I picked things up incorrectly from my mechanic:
1) Plug leads weren't checked (there aren't any - my mistake)
2) This fault occurs intermittently - sometimes every other mile, sometimes not for 50-60 miles. Each time, when the car is restarted the fault is reset and the engine runs fine.
3) My mechanic has lent me a hand held sykes pickavant code reader. When the fault occurs at the roadside I plug it in and retrieve any error codes stored (They aren't stored in every case). Recent ones have been: P0300 Random / Multiple Cylinder Misfire, P0306 Cyl 6 Misfire Detected, P0301 Cyl 1 Misfire Detected and P0170 Fuel trim (Bank 1) (2)
I'm thinking along the lines of a faulty coil pack? Any ideas??

Try the pedal trick, you don't need a reader as such, but a look at the live data would be helpful.
Coil packs or plugs, maf, crank sensor possibly? Needs more investigation.
Pm one of the tech 2 guys on here, they'll sort it.

No. It just lets you read errors stored.

The stop/restart may give a clue. Mine used to missfire on LPG under certain conditions, which would make the car ECU go into a "safe mode" kind of thing, and I think stop firing one pot. The quick answer was to stop, turn off ignition and restart. Doing so clears any temporary errors.
The real fault was not enough LPG going in under high demand conditions, which was cured in my case by increasing the gas supply.

Dis/coil pack seems a likely suspect, especially if it's getting worse. You said there were condensation problems, maybe as well as the plugs it may have affected the DIS pack. It can look fine but be totally buggered inside.......

You can get replacement rubber boots and springs for DIS packs from VX.

Thanks folks. I think I'll renew the coil pack and have the gas system tested. My mechanic will just love me! Apparently a nightmare to get at the coilpack as lpg system gubbins needs removed first - he did that a week ago!

Have you tried actually disabling the LPG and driving around for a few days on petrol ? it would at least definitely eliminate the LPG system. :-/

Sort of...
The 2.2 (4 cylinder) and 2.6/3.2 (6 cylinder) are 'coil on plug' engines.
The coils are part of a plastic strip with 3 (or 4) coils on that fits into the well in the cam covers.
