Title: rumbling noise :S
Post by: Fazeel on 13 August 2010, 21:31:52
my car makes this rumbling noise at slow speeds like around 35 to 65 km/h

Can anyone tell me what might be causing it ??

I asked my dad and he said it might be the bearing ( or something like that ) ??
But the fact is that I dont even know what a bearing is !!
;D

But anyway, I suspect it might be the tyres, but thats just a guess, can be anything....

cuz few months back I went to get the tyres balanced, and he told me that the inner side of the tyre is sort of, how should I say, wearing off, or like peeled off or something, so I thought maybe its that ??

Do let me know if you dont understand what Im trying to say, cuz I think I made it a little confusing :P

hi there,
sounds like you need to have the steering realigned, then replace the worn tyres.
get someone to ride in the car with you and sit in the rear, sit one side then on the other, finally in the front passenger side to see if they can hear the rumbling in any particular corner.
if you do find the noise then inspect the wheel, tyre, brake pads or shoes, caliper and the bearings. if on the rear check the diff underneath for oil leaking from the driveshaft seals, this could indicate dirt ingress also....if you are not to competant then point out what you find to a mech' and get them to look for you.....
could be the start of a expensive journey or maybe not...
mark. :y

It could be a wheel bearing worn, a tyre fault, a worn anti roll bar link (mine just had to have a new pair to pass MOT) or a worn track rod end.

These are the main culprits to my best knowledge.

If you jack up the front of the miggy and wiggle the front wheels and see if there is any excess "play" as this may indicate worn track rod ends or anti roll bar links.
