the earlier tech1 diagnostic machine had a separate cartridge for use with the omega. does anyone know which cars in the range this covered? was it early omegas only? i presume earlier cars were fitted with a the old style connector, but wondered if you could get an adaptor to connect to the newer omegas, or is the software incompatible?

When I was once asking on here about getting someone to Tech2 ours, I was told I'd need Tech1.
VIN indicates it was manufactured in '95, X20XEV, 2-digit fault codes.
Never did get a Tech1 on it, so I don't know for sure that's what will work with it. No reason to doubt the experts on here though. :)

i know tech2 works for all the 97 onwards motors, i just wondered if the tech1 also would work on some later cars, as i know it was in use during the first few years of omega production.

MY TECH 1 has a seperate lead as well as cartridge for the omega, it can talk to most years autoboxes and some other things, but it really only does up to 98 engine wise, although it does do all the td that i have connected to!!
which reminds me i must get and put it on ebay!!! had it here with me three years and never used it!!! lol

All Omegas have the same connector. There was a suitable cable for Tech1 available, should have a multiplexor built in.
Tech1 can only read ECUs which were available up until its demise in 1997. So, as Omegatoy says, can read up to 1998 gearboxes, most v6 engines pre DBW, most DDE2.0 diesels but not DDE2.1
Tech2 is more useful on Omegas, as can do everything except IR central locking.

the reason i ask is part curiosity as i now have a tech1 which came with 10 cartridges including the fabled omega unit. i also have the connector cable but wondered how far along the omega range i could go!

i thought i'd add this out of interest more than anything else, but today i went out with my tech 1 and connected up the omega. it's a '97 minifacelift, so i didnt try the dedicated omega cartridge as that says 1994. instead i put in the master cartridge 1987 - 1997 and that worked a treat. id be interested to hook this up to a facelift omega and see just what, if anything, it is able to read...

What systems did you try to read? Engines I'd expect to read v6 up to 2000ish, 2.0 could be less successful. Diesels up to DDE 2.0 (214/215 ecus). Gearbox to 1997. ABS likewise. Petrol cruise to 97.
Most of the miifacelift ECU enhancements - HIDs, self levelling, instrument panel etc etc unlikely to work.
Airbag, I'm guessing to 97.
All in all, beyond 97 on an Omega (when a load of revised ECUs went in), Tech1 is next to useless beyond engine...

i bought it for use on my 94 cavalier project, which is running a c25xe bit will be getting the x30xe engine soon enough. thought while i was testing it out id try hooking up to the omega. youre right, the engine diagnostics were fine, but the battery was nearly dead on the omega so i didnt get much further than that hehehe! i'll have to give it another go when the ol' girl has some power in her. tech1(a) was, however, able to read the autobox and a few other bits too.
