on my CDX with A/C the A/C blows cold all the time unless you turn it up to "hi"
Even on 26* setting it seems to want to blow cold air (and the outside temperature is not more than 26* for sure!)
Is this normal or is mine broken in some way...?
Cheers

You could try a reset (on Mini-F/L) press and hold Off and Auto for 7 seconds or so (Climate Control)
Also, flushing the heater matrix in both directions with a garden hose might help.
Other than that, check the functionality of the Heater Bypass Valve.

could do with a live data reading on it. Need to do same on my MV6, which suffers similar...

I'd like my a/c to be looked at via Tech II if one is going to Newent. I'm not always convinced of its ability to control/maintain a cabin temp at various ambient temps.
-
have you got a vacuum supply to the HBV permanently ?
-
thanks. I'll try the reset thing tomorrow. Oddly I had a Lexus which did exactly the same thing.

I spend my days designing heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems. I spent last week designing the control system for a suite of hospital operating theatres.
The climate control in my Elite drives me to distraction. It seems to have three sensors it uses to control the temperature in the cabin
- the outside temperature sensor (why?)
- the solar sensor at the base of the windscreen
- a temperature sensor that measures the temperature of the top of the radio .........
Why can't I just set the supply temperature? I've driven 18,000 miles in this car since I bought it last September and I still prefer the dials in my 94 Omega :(

Yep, agreed. I get in mine in the mornings, climate set to 20 degrees. Outside temperature 14 degrees, sun has been on the car for a couple of hours and it's like a sauna inside. What does the climate do?
Outside temperature < set temperature so whack on the heater. >:(
It really is a totally useless system under anything other than straightforward steady state conditions, IMHO (conditions where a manual system doesn't need any tweaking either!). What was wrong with a 3 dial setup?

I wonder if there is a Tech2 update (downgrade?) available that would make it behave like the manual system?
My ideal would be for the influence of the solar sensor to be cut to about 1/3 of its present value and the outside sensor removed totally when AUTO is on the display.
When not in AUTO I would want the temperature set on the display to be the temperature that came out of the vents.

I think the problem with the facelift climate setup is that they got rid of the interior temperature sampling (instead of fixing the sampling fan so it's more reliable).
So, the system knows outside temperature, vent temperature, sun level and I think it uses the 3 to try and second guess. If outside temperature is below the set temperature and there's little sun it sets the vent temperature way up on the assumption that the interior temperature needs raising quickly, but it has no way of knowing it's already sweltering hot. ::)

What where they smoking ? :-?
As said above I would be happy if I could just set the vent temperatures.
There is an art to choosing a good place to measure the temperature to control an air conditioning system. In a space with lots of glass (such as a car) it is often impossible :(
-
yep - it drives me mad, too.
i just need to set a temperature and then turn the fan down really low, not a big ask really, is it.
p.s. Kevin, just picked up a nice toy from ebay, probably an M112, so a bit big for Omega.

The Senator seemed to have a better set up, a sensor for each side via the ducts that ran back to the sampling fan.
-
agreed - newer cars aren't always better.
there was a "magic" period I believe, just before the invention of the air bag, where cars had the right level of gizmos, but not too much.

Agreed.
.. and we moan about the Omega forgetting that it is 8+ years old. It'd do my nut in if I had to drive a modern car with automatic headlight switching, electric handbrake, "start/stop" button, etc. >:(
Normally I love gadgets but when they are completely superfluous, useful only to the lazy or incompetent, or just make the job harder, they belong in the bin.

:-*
It might liven the Commodore up a bit. ;D
Westfield had its' first post-rebuild engine run today. All seems OK. Just need to bolt on some sundries like something to sit on, and it'll be there.

I'm actually hoping it's an M62 for the spare Rover V8, but if it's the big one, then I won't complain.
mind you, being able to use more than 2nd and 5th would undoubtedly liven up the Holden - transmission comes out (at last) next week. going for alloy flywheel at the same time.
still going up North in the Westy ?

The Holden will be a monster with a full complement of gears.
Plan is still to drive it to Scotland, must to Emma's disgust, as she was planning on having enough boot space for the kitchen sink. Need to get an MOT and tax, brake pedal has ended up a bit spongy despite relentless bleeding so might need to have a tinker with that, and some sort of suspension setup, I suppose. ::) Might be a bits of string and spirit level job the night before. ;D
