Post by: idwal on 13 August 2010, 13:38:49

driving home today and car stalled whilst on lpg
could not restart - would just turn over as if no fuel

car started after lifting bonnet

happened again after 5 minutes - temp normal
full of petrol and at least 2/3rds tank of lpg

Seconded... 99% sure it'll be crank sensor ;)

did the paper clip check and no faults cam up
when engine running  :-/
and 3 -1 came up when engin not running  :-?

is it expensive to change the crank sensor?

thanks

Is the idle absolutely stable?

Does it only cut out at idle?

idle is around 500 rmp and car has not cut out on idle

today is the first time it has happened and both
times whilst the car was moving?

I'd still go for crank sensor if there aren't any obvious missfires etc..

Good spot, I never looked, don't think it would make any odds if it was crank sensor at fault....

But is it crank sensor? Presumably this happened on gas?

crank sensor crank sensor crank sensor..
Change it - inexpensive place to start, then you know you have a good one anyway even if it doesn't cure it

did paper clip again
no code with engine running
3-1 with engine off.

also - when the car started after maybe 10-15 minutes
it started on petrol and then went straight to gas.

will change the crank sensor and see how it goes from there!

thanks

does it normally take this long to switch over to gas? is it an auto switch over i.e. it auto starts on petrol and then auto switches to gas?

system is a BRC system and changes over after about
2-3 miles - dependant on temperature.
the 10-15 minutes mentioned was how long I was driving
car before it stalled?

thanks

I had the crank sensor replaced last week and have
taken it out for a 20 mile run and seems to be ok now.

thanks for all input - it saved the usual
"well we will have a look and get back to you"?

thanks again
