Title: handbrake shoes
Post by: 24_Valve on 24 August 2010, 00:37:37
adjustment through discs... which direction do I turn the star wheel adjuster (up or down) to tighten shoes? Have read the how to... http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1152564750 for whole procedure, just not sure about direction  ;)

Sadly, I always get confused and have to trial and error it until the wheel locks up.

If I were more awake, could probably work out the left/right side of the car and a left/right hand threaded adjuster, and the correct way to rotate it, be that up, or down....   :-[

It depends on how the adjusters were put in, they can go in either way so it's pot luck.  ::)

If you look into the hole with a torch and the starwheel is on the right side of the adjuster then turn it upwards to tighten the shoes, and obviously turn down to tighten if the wheel is on the left.

You can't screw it off, unless it's separated from the brakeshoes.

Looks as though UP would loosen shoes? but only if it faces this way as you look at the disc  ::)

After I rebuilt my handbrake assembly I took a photo of each side adjuster, printed them off and then pasted into my Haynes manual with directions on which way to turn for release and lock.
Its much easier now without the guess work.

Great idea, I will do that next time I have the disc off.
