Title: Port Reader and MAF Disconnection
Post by: seanjones on 17 August 2010, 21:43:19
Hi,

My 2002 2.2 16v is struggling to start sometimes, and always runs roughly for a minute or two after starting.  It also on occasion will go into limp mode, with the ECU light on.

Firstly I want to get a read of the fault, and as it goes out after a few restarts I figured I could read it myself. I'm looking at getting an ebay lcd reader thing (item:320502280608).

Has anyone used one/or recommend against it?

Secondly I want to disconnect the MAF sensor to see it that sorts the issue, which is apparently a 10 minute job. I can't find a guide on how to do this, and I'm hopeless without a picture or two of what I need to do. Can anyone help?

Cheers

10 minutes???  30 seconds to unplug it - drivers side at front go left from air filter - second plug down - disconnect.  :y

Whoops - sorry disregard location above - thats for a V6 not a 4 pot  :-[

Scary. I was about to post that link! So I just unplug the wire going into the labelled bit?

Having unplugged the MAF sensor, my lumping start-up issue has disappeared, having left the car overnight it started sweet as anything this morning. Am I correct in thinking that a new sensor is needed?

Well the sensor is replaced, and the start up seems smoother. What. I did notice was that before I unplugged and reconnected the original maf, on startup the car would make a quiet buzzing noise, which it nolonger does. On my old passat that kind of sound was the ecu learning the throttle butterfly positions, could the same be true of the omega?
