Title: paint code
Post by: Andy B on 23 August 2010, 13:38:50
I  know there's a VIN plate description here (http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1154543684) but I'm buggered if I can work out which my paint code is. So ....... which is it?
(I'll delete the picture later  ;))

Can you detect a wanted post coming up?  ::) ::)

Don't take the code as gospel! Two things I've learned in my trade... 1 - the manufacturer's don't always put the right code on the vin plates [ford are the worst on this.. I'm yet to work on a ford that actually has the right paint code stamped on it!]
2 - manufacturer's use the same code for many different shades of the same colour. For instance, I was working on a Corsa the other week with the code 547. This colour has been around since 1990 and as such there are a few shades of this paint. The dealership will tell you it's 547. But it's not until you can put this code against the other shades and then all the shades against the car can you realise just which is the right paint colour and code for your particular vehicle. If you're at all unsure, if you have a friends at a bodyshop who uses colour cards, get them to put the cards relating to your paint code against your car, that way you'll know the right code for your vehicle. This will then help you if you want to get touch up paint from a dealer/distributor etc...

Same as mine - its 81L (Diamond Black) and because the 81L colour (paint by Lesonal 1K) is an exact match for the paintwork under the trims so it must be correct. Check by using paint swatches at the paint shops because it may change with years of manufacture.

thanks, but it'll likely be a rattle can from a motor factor  :( if I can't get hold of the same colour handle  :y
