Just managed to wangle a parking space under my building in the City centre. Rare as rocking horse Poo. We have 30 spaces for 400 staff - even my Department Director doesnt have one..
Now im spending about £90 commuting just now via train per month.
If i bring the MV6 into town every day im looking at 720miles a month.
Now seeing as i dont really drive much i have no idea what range i can get in a full tank. Im thinking driven sensible in a motorway and off peak hours possible 500miles a tank. Therefore im thinking my commute cost will go up marginally. My jorney is 95% motorway.
Anyone confirm what they get from a full tank.
Also what costs am i looking at to fully lpg the car as i may not be doing about 10000miles rather than 2000k. Is it financially viable?
Alternative is to buy a cheap commute corsa cos the LPG jeep wont fit into the parking space ;D

I'd say more like 400 per tank, TBH.
At 30 to the gallon you'll get 430 miles from 65 litres leaving 10 litres left in the tank, so not "on vapours". That's about 67 quid :o
'kinnel this petrol's gettin expensive. Must stop doing calculations like that. :o
LPG would probably be about 800 quid to DIY using the kit we fitted to James' car plus a tank.

I think you'll be luck to get 500 miles to a tank, certainly I couldn't manage that!
LPG saves you about 10-12p/mile, so if you DIY the conversion (~£800) and do 10,000 miles in a year it'll have paid for itself within a year. If you drive more economically than me your savings will be less -- my MPG averages about 25-26 on petrol.
Corsa to commute? Pah, I'd stick to the train!

500 miles???? I wish.

Forgot to ask, why do you actually want to drive if you're going into the city centre? I had to go into Glasgow a few days a week last year, and I took the car about 3 times before realising it was driving me insane and I got there in half the time using the train. It was actually more expensive by train (almost £10 return from Edinburgh with young persons railcard, over £16 without!) but I wasn't paying so didn't care.
I very much enjoy driving, but on motorways in rush hour? No thanks -- I don't have the patience for it, and inevitably I end up rather volatile by the time I arrive!
If you have a bike licence on the other hand....

It's quite telling of the state of our public transport system when you can make calculations like that! 90 quid on the train versus 111 quid in fuel to go in a 3 litre car. Granted, there are other expenses involved in the car option but most are fixed whether you drive it or not and fuel is the major one.
Is it really surprising that people don't use public transport more?

Why do i want to drive....let me see...
I need to leave my house drive 3 miles, struggle to park at train station and get a 45 minute train journey - if it turns up/ turns up on time.
I spend 2 hours a day commuting due to travel to station etc.
By taking the car im 2 miles through Airdrie then M8 motorway straight to office - max 30minute journey at the times i travel ( ive errr done it in 16 minutes before)
So im saving 1 hour a day and id rather sit in an MV6 than a train through Glasgows smelly east end.
Btw i think i have the most economical MV6 ever or the most pedantic driving style. £20 returns me about 130miles at 60mph.... with the mid often showing 32/33mpg
-
And another thought - if i take the MV6 i can go from my house to the office without EVER being outside !!!
-
Fair enough. I was going from Edinburgh to Glasgow so worst of the traffic at both ends of the M8. Alternatively, 5 minutes walk to Waverly Station, 50 minutes on the train to Queen Street, then 5 minutes walk from there (Strathclyde Uni). And the trains were almost always on time -- not surprising when it's probably the most profitable line in the country (read rip-off!)
My MID shows an average of 24.7 or thereabouts, and mine is a manual! I don't suppose regular visits to 6000 RPM help that much though ::)

You park the car in the house? :D

My 3.0 used to return about 50-60 miles from £10 of petrol but heavily depends on town/motorway and how you drive...home to work in 16 mins will probably return you about 30 miles per £10 lol
70 litres with mostly motorway, just over £70 of fuel these days, 350-420 miles...if you have to do more like 750 miles then your looking at about 2 tanks worth...£120-140...

Looks like you are going to convert then ;D

Actually no - ive ruled that out need the golf clubs to be in the boot....
And im still undecided about how much longer i will have the MV6, i dont think it will be here in a year to have paid for conversion...

Wanna buy a nice pre-converted MV6? Proper gearbox in this one ;) although the mileage will be waaaaaaay too high for you (175K) :o
I have a guy coming to look at mine this weekend, put it up on Pistonheads last night (at about 1.30 am) and got a phone call this morning. Quite surprised actually, and I think he'd have come to see it today if it weren't for the fact that he's a lot closer to my folks' place than Edinburgh so I said I could come down there at the weekend as I need to drop some stuff off anyway.

I also drive in rush hours everyday..Normal 15-20 minutes road becomes 50 minutes if no accident or snow..
Sometimes I leave the job half an hour late for the traffic to become normal..Even this helps ..
Also I must note; yearly cost of brake pads, oil, filter, sparks and other service items on the average cost considerable amount..
But if you like the comfort of meggy someone must pay the bills :y
ps: still I use 97 RON normal fuel..

whilst i have had over 500m from a tank in the MV6, that was in France on toll roads. I normally average about 350m, but crappy journey to work here...
