Hi to you all, I have just joined the owners club and I need some help, I have a 2003 Vauxhall Omega 2.5 CDX,
I have just had the cam belt changed and the garage told me that they had found oil in the header tank,
They cleaned out the engine and the colling system, it was then refilled and they let the car sit and run the car for a couple of hours to make sure it got good and hot, nothing happened and the car had no oil in the water header tank, since then three weeks have passed and now there is a good amount of oil in the header tank, I am hoping that the head gasket has not gone but cant think of what else it could be, if it is I would like to repair it myself, has anyone done this before and if so what sort of job is it to do,
Cheers Puddsy

Its the oil cooler and not the head gaskets ;)
Oh and welcome to the forum ;)

Sounds like oil cooler which is in the V of the engine between the cylinder heads. Try this link for guidance, http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1211220529

As others have said, 99.9% seems to be pointing to the oil coolers, this is situated between the 2 heads and the seals tend to deterioriate with the lack of proper ammount of anti freeze mixture.

Pudsy - if you put an approximate location in your details, there may be someone nearby who could be able to offer some assistance. :y

profile says 2.6, post says 2.5 so assume typo :y

Hi to you all and thanks to everone for the assistance,I did ask the garage about the oil cooler but he said that is not connected to the water coolant system, could the model mean that it is on a separate system or are they all the same?
I did think that as there is no loss of power or starting issues at all head gasket did not seem to be the problem, I am however a man who has not worked on an engine since points, rotor arms and condensors were taken away,
With reagrds to the 2.5cdx it was a typo 2.6 it is Doh!
Location is Borough Green, in Kent, TN158DL

Hi Puddsy. The oil cooler is water cooled and sits in the V of the engine under the inlet manifold. ;)

Change your garage as he dont know what hes talking about......and if hes this green hes not got a hope in hell of doing a good job changing it
The oil coooler is immersed in engin ecoolant in the centre of the V

Hi There, I will get onto this job then when I come back off my hols, I think that even my limited abilities should be able to carry out this task (I hope)

Its not to hard, you will need a 19mm crowsfoot spanner....and use the correct sealent for the plate
Dont be tempted to bend the pipes to cut corners, it causes 'issues'
-
I wouldn't use the car in the meantime, it will make cleaning the cooling system even harder :(
-
Bit Late with the using the car the coolant system is full of oil, the header tank looked like pure oil,
I will stop now though as I dont want to blow the old boy up, we do love the car, it is my 5th one, I will stick some piccies of him on soon,
Cheers for all the help again Puddsy :y
