Title: auto gearbox problem

all the selector lights are on on the gearbox, the gearbox warning light on the dash and the abs warning light. wont go into 4th ever, have been told by vauxhall to bin the car as it will to too expensive to fit. surely this cant be right? someone else told me that it could just be the gearbox sensor playing up? who's right, love my car and would like it fixed but £1500 estimate from vauxhall garage is too much as car only worth that, can anyone help me?

the vauxhall garage geve me a list of codes:
P0500 SPEED SENSOR
P1700 SENSOR REQUEST FROM TANS ECU
P0705 RANGE SENSOR MALFUNCTION
U2105 NO COMM WITH ECU
P0748 PRESSURE CONTROL VALVE
U7580 SHIFT SOLENIOD HIGH INPUT

Where are you Pordric? Many of us have decent code readers and would gladly read all the codes off both the engine and gearbox to try and figure out what is going on :y

it sounds like nothing more than a selector switch problem, you could try either adjusting it or stripping & cleaning. :y

Hiya welcome to the forum. :y.
Your problem maybe a dirty position switch.
The switch is located passenger side  next to the sump.Give it a clean with"electrical contact cleaner" and see how it goes before a big spend. :y

Lol - more like they can't be bothered or lack the skills to diagnose it properly. ;D

Sounds like the gearbox selector switch is the main problem. Possible some ABS wierdness too but fix the selector switch first and see what happens.

also its worthwhile while the switch is off to check that the nylon cam (the bit that sits over the shaft) hasnt got a crack in it as that has been known to upset things. :y

Don't see how that affects gear selector lights?

Remove and clean selector switch as advised by others.  Believe there is a howto on here  :y

Auto gearbox issues on Omegas. Right, let me get my cuppa tea.

Possible problems are basic.
1. Selector
2. Gearbox


The lights all flashing is fairly common when the plugs on the gearbox or the selector get wet. Easiest solution is to drop the box down a few inches at the back and change the selector looking for any cracks/breaks in the connectors to the box and ensuring they are bone dry.

Box, check the fluid colour. Red is good. Lightish brown is ok, dark brown/black is not good.

Worst case scenario is finding a good used AR35 box with selector and loom. About £150 tops.

Changing is a weekend of fun for a couple of the guys a little more able than me these days. I will certainly offer any tips advise if it comes to that.

BUT, it is a common fault to be just the selector, so start with that. We are talking the selector unit under the car not the lever inside. The lever just connects to the actual selector, so jack up and under you jolly well go.

VX? Forget them. think of them in terms of the worst possible reject fro Britains Got No Talent (DJ Talent for example) in a flowery dress, chewing razor blades whilst tap dancing on broken glass. VX have about as much skill/knowledge and razor blades as that.
