hi all,
has anyone got a rear view picture of the 2.5td engine? i have a leak from a half moon feeling hole at the rear of the head,
as you look at the bulk head, on the right side/ end of the rocker box, feel down behind and just on the rocker box join and the head, is the half moon feeling hole, i have oil leaking from there but only dripping slightly and oil level last for some time,
been to vauxhall but they can't see what may missing from the hole infact can't even see the hole on the computer but came out and agrees something should go in there but no idea what >:(
so any ideas greatly appreciated
thanks rob

i reckon so mate, did wonder if it was part of the gasket due to the general location,
where did you get the diagram from if i can ask, my tis cd is not as good as that.
thanks rob

That half moon shape's at the front of the engine, he means at the back, I think.
Ask Elite Pete about it, he's fast becoming an expert ::) on this engine. He's recently part stripped one to do the timing chain if I remember.
Mick ;)

just read on tis to get a small mirror and check it is in correct when replacing the gasket/cover'
looks like it will need to come off and reseated or replaced.

I got it from The Range Rover manual it uses the same BMW engine.
That rear half moon is a known leak point, often the new gasket is dislodged when the cover is being put back on.

well after many choice words about the car designing industry mainly vauxhall, i have found the problem with the oil leak,
it was the half moon gasket on the rear edge, also about half way along back edge between the half moon and the rightside of the cover, i found the gasket was ripped in half, so must have been done with the last owner not refitting it after some engine work was done by him.
struggled to get the gasket without ordering it, but good old chester exhaust supplies (CES) had one in Crewe,
Part number = RC558S £20.03 inc vat,
many more choice words later and many ripped latex gloves, the job is done and no leaks as yet.
so once again many thanks to all who helped out and it was really appreciated.
