Title: Urgent Advice Please
Post by: Proz on 12 September 2010, 17:35:19
Hi all
Went out to the car today after it had been sitting for a day to be greeted with a greasy puddle under drivers front .
Anyway i'll put up some pics so you can tell me whats leeking now and will it stop me going on holidayy with it next weekend ( bloody typical )
There is a drip coming from the bottom black pipe pictured , seems to be a clearish greasy oily smelling liquid  :'(

What are these black/metal pipes for ?... is it A/C or is it oil cooler for gearbox .
If its a/c i assume it will be ok to use as it doesnt work anyway .

Perhaps disconnect, clean and re-seat.

Short cut may be jubilee clips in addition to the clamps as a short cut and see if it can be tightened a bit further.  If the area or any pipes are rotten then perhaps new or used parts.  Seems pretty accessible but I don't know your car to say how you would replenish the leaked or fluid lost on refit.

Cheers.

Ok thanks .... so if i throw the car into VX tomorrow any idea of how much i would be looking at ??
Would it just be the 2 pipes going into the block above the radiator down to the black pipes or is there more to it than that  :-/

Yep. Pipes and top part of block are all in one. Not going to be an off the shelf part though. Why not give this place a bell (mobile in the listing) may be able to help

Can't anyone with EPC please try and find a part no for me  :-/
Title: Re: Urgent Advice Please
Post by: CaptainZok on 13 September 2010, 15:04:55
Only thing I can find is
90470806 PIPE, OIL COOLER INLET 20SE, X20SE, X20XEV, X25XE, X30XE, U25TD, X25TD

Get VX to bring it up on their computer so you can see if it's the part you need.
Title: Re: Urgent Advice Please
Post by: CaptainZok on 13 September 2010, 15:09:26
Or possibly
PIPE, ASSY., OIL COOLER
(NLS.- NO REPLACEMENT PART)  52496584
Which they don't seem to stock anymore.
May be worth your while sending Andy C a PM see if he can find one for you.

Proz, I don't have EPC & cannot find anything doing a general internet search, but why not follow the link given by TestOmega to Omegaspareparts.com?
The owner is called Steve & is a member on here. If you ask for him & tell him you are from the Forum, he will give you a discount. HTH :y

I can see the part but it wont tell me the number.

They are teh same on later 2.6/3.2's also.

I personaly would be hacksawing the rusty end off and re-attaching the rubber hose to the fresh metal as a stop gap

Post by: Proz on 13 September 2010, 16:17:25
Thanks for the help guys  :y :y
I think i may try the hacksaw method if i cant source the proper part .
I have used Omega Spares before .
Its just typical this happens just before i need the thing for going away .
Im rather desperate to get her fixed for Saturday or i'll have to hire something  :(

Proz, it would be worth your while to replace the original hose clamps with worm drive/jubilee clips? As you will be cutting off the retaining collar on the pipes, the original clips will have not enough grip to stop the hoses pulling out under stress?  :y

The bad news being
(9126208)  PIPE, ASSY., OIL COOLER (NLS.- USE 52496584)
Which ends up as the one they don't stock any more.

Proz, I have a set of these pipes cluttering up my garden path, you are welcome to them for the postage.

Have the bit that bolts to the radiator and the longer part that includes the rubber hose and runs all the way back to the gearbox. Might be able to find the banjo bolts and washers for the radiator end as well.

PM me if you want any of this.

Yes but they don't seem to stock the replacement either.
As I said get in touch with Andy C he might know something we don't.

Now forgive my ignorance but what flows through these pipes ?
Is it coolant or is it gearbox oil and hence will the box need topping up ?

ATF from the gearbox, it circulates through a pipe in the end of the water radiator and gives up excess heat to the coolant
You will lose a little fluid changing the pipe but could have lost more through the leak over time.
Would be worth checking the box fluid level.

Post by: PhilRich on 13 September 2010, 20:01:29
It's ATF Proz, so yes you will need to top up but only if you have managed to lose a fair amount during the swap over. :y

edit: I have GOT to learn to type with more than one finger! ;D

Well it seems the panic is over .
Some nice clean pipes arrived today courtesy of Omega Spares .
I dont have the equipment to allow me to get the car high enough to check the ATF level but it appered i caught it as soon as the leak started .
Just been for a run and all seems fine .
I will get the level checked somehow but seems fine just now  :y :y
