Checked coolant level yesterday.o.k. started up this morning coolant level check came on.Took about a pint to top up.Ran the car about 20 miles no loss of fluid. Before run no drips under car and no obvious signs of leak.Any ideas?

Could be the HBV ... very common .
-
My HBV went and i found a leak coming down behind the drivers side wheel ... with the car running and warmed up try changing the heater from hot to cold whilst looking for any kind of leak .
If your is 2.2 petrol the HBV is drivers side rear of the engine bay , funny saucer shaped thing .
Check it for leaks or staining :y

Just make sure that that is what the problem is though :y

Checked HBV dry and no stains around it.Drove 10 miles, once again no coolant loss.Mystery!

I dont have a picture but its hard to see as its behind the plenum at back of engine l/h/s looking form front of car. you need to take off scuttle to see properly.

You might simply have had a stubborn air lock which has now bled itself? Keep an eye on the coolant level for a while to be sure though :y

Hopefully an air lock.Done over 80 miles today. No coolant loss.Would this have been caused by me opening the expansion tank?
