Title: Coolant coloured gunk on my oil cooler
Post by: geoffr70 on 25 September 2010, 21:43:17
Hello, after working on my mig a few months back, I noticed a bluey green paste on top of my oil cooler, I had blue/green coolant at the time.

Yesterday, after replacing lower divider, I noticed the gunk is now red (I have changed to red coolant), and is still moist after the car being stood for a few days.

Can anyone tell me what problem i have please? Could it just be the plate on top, and not the actual oil cooler. I haven't got any other symptoms, not losing any coolant.

Thanks all.

It sounds like your oil cooler top plate to engine block sealant joint is on its way out and needs resealing.

Thanks for that! Can I just use black sealant? I've got some already, or does it need a gasket? Thanks

If memory serves its the grey sealant you need for the oil cooler plate... I'll check .. back shortly .. :)
