I have had water loss on the car like forever.
Changed heater bypass valve. and disconnected the heater matrix by bypassing it some months ago. Disconnecting the heater matrix reduced water loss.
I did a full days driving two days ago and covered maybe 200 miles and lost only half a teacup of water. It would have been more if I hadn't had the air con on all the time.
Am I right in assuming now that as I lose more water with air con off than with it on that the problem area is the HBV or condition of a pipe attached to it? Any suggestions pls?

drive the car night time (so engine becomes hot), park in a silent area and listen the coolant cap..if you hear some noise it may leak by evaporization..
and other strong candidates are thermostat and oil cooler area.. however you need to dig under the plenum :-/

I had the same problem.
It was a small pipe, RIGHT at the back of the engine, low down and sadly too close to the Dis pack. A complete nightmare to get at.
That £3.00 pipe cost me a fortune....it killed the DIS pack and cost me about £360 to get fixed.

Duggs What did it go from to?

Got an old expansion bottle cap you can modify to test for leaks?

i was going to suggest the pipe pointed out in the picture! I was beaten to it! If your drivers side ex man gasket has been done, it is a right pain getting this pipe on and off for access. It's what took me most of the time.
There are two bolts at the rear, it is very hard to tighten these, hence that could be your leak

I suffered from coolant leak in the past.. and to my luck the d*mn thing loose it from every possible place ;D
imo either go after Mr DTMs offer or use some color additives..

Bejabbers. I have never seen that pipe before. There again I have never seen that turbo/supercharger thing at the front on my engine either. No wonder mine is slow sluggish! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

tried a replacement header tank? they can sneakily leak via cracks in the neck
