Good evening everyone! I hope you are all better than i am. I need help and lots of it. I have a 2002 2.2 which has done 87000 miles. since i bought it in january its had a intermittent surging on accleration between 1000 & 4000 rpm.last month the head gasket/head was done as it had gone.Thinking that would be the cause i was wrong. Its now started playing up with starting and showed after computer test that the cam sensor wasnt workin. even with a new one its no better its worse! its also got a new coil pack and still doin this. Now who is going to know the answer to all this before i have an early bonfire night???????!!!!!!! PLEASE HELP ME >:( :'(

First thing was the cam sensor genuine vauxhall? Have the breathers and throttle body been stripped down and cleaned? Have you any air leaks anywhere?
What was the diagnosis for the head gasket replacement :-?
-
it started miss firing and was losing water but not getting hot.i have been advised to look at the lamba sensor and egr valve its cost me a 1000 so far and im running out of money and faith

First thing was the cam sensor genuine vauxhall?
As said cleaning out the breathers, inlet and ICV may help.
-
I recently had a very noticeable surging on mine. It turned out to be the sound absorbing material in one of the exhuast boxes had become detached and was blocking the exhuast. Might be worth a look. :-/
-
no the sensor is an intermotor i thought 70 pound for that was enough im toyin over the idea of putting the old one back as it only failed to make signal once. the new ones done it 3
-
I would replace the sensor with a new genuine one or a known good one, pattern ones are shite. £70 is about right and its a common problem on the 2.2's.
Lamba sensor reasonably robust would, was there oil in the water and/or vice versa what gave your mechanic the conclusion that it was the Head Gasket :-? :-?

The car was misfiring and had bought the management light on, the header tank was empty.when stripped down i had seen for myself the gasket was blown on cylinder 1 and 2. the garage people know my family well and for a long time so i dont dis believe anything he tells me luckily i do have some engine knowledge just not this deep. :-/

Im not having a go at your mechanic its just the omega is a very misunderstood car and HG faliure is a common wrong diagnosis. :(
Empty header tank can lead to HG going but can be caused by all manner of things HBV valve faliure being extremly common. Would have thought that the gasket would be knackered by the time you strip it down that far anyway.
However we digress if the misfire is still there then we need to sort that how new are the plugs? Any oil or water in the plug wells?
What were the codes you read off it and what kind of code reader :y
-
i had and still curretly got ngk plugs. i tried genuine gm plugs and it ran worse. my mechanic runs delphi equiptement to a lap top not sure of the codes my self havnt managed to get it plugged in but twice today it has failed to read a sensor and wouldnt start. . . . . now it does and light is out again
-
Would clear all the codes and then see what appears after that, my money is on cam sensor, as it sounds very similar as to the problems i had last year.
Was there any water or oil in the plug sockets, is it wet under the scuttle.
Can see no reason why it would run worse on GM plugs (made by bosch) if they are new :-? :-?
-
as the head has been done its all good in each cylinder. im going to do a compression test over the week end and rule that side out and follow your advice and see what happens
-
Take it to Jim Grayson for a proper diagnosis.

And genuine Cam sensor all the way, that much for a pattern item is daylight robbery.
I assume the timing belt is properly fitted, tensioned and timed up?
-
yes it all good hes been in the trade twenty years and got good rep
-
Is it still losing coolant? Did the mechanic not compression test it after replacing the HG?
