It definately is a different disk, and will only work in the device it was created for.

thanks guys...   so...  Jaimee, do i understand you correctly in that the discs are machine specific somehow, to each individual unit?   not just by type, but by serial number or something?

or is it just a specific disc for the generic type of unit ??

(Eg, is there potential to borrow a disc fro anyone to test the thing , do i have to just hope it works, and order one specific to the car???  )

The disc from a mini facelift will only work in a mini facelift but you could loan one from a Facelift to make sure yours works  ;)

Speaking of which - does anyone know what the latest dated discs are?

I have a 2002 in mine (or will, when I fix the GPS!) .. (Max, you could borrow mine for a bit if you want - it's no use to me for the moment!)

aaron, that's a very kind offer, i may take you up on it if i can sort out a means to get from here , to you, and then to see the car....

it might seem petty, but i don't want to buy the car if the sat nav is knackered....

that's why i was asking.....   to see if my current disc was of use to test it with.

Gotcha - the car is in Epping, right? I could always meet up with you somewhere on the M40/M25 - they're not a million miles from Bracknell ;) assuming it's a day when I'm free that is :)

well, you're a star even if it's not.. but that's by the by....   ;) :y

Yeah - just drop me a text (I'll give you my number) or a PM with the time you organise.. I should be able to pop over any time this weekend, unless the plumber still has my heating & water system in bits  ;D

Carin latest is something like 2008, Siemens NCDx latest is 2010.

MaxV6 - you are more than welcome to borrow one of my Siemens CDs for testing - I have some older (2003 ish vintage) ones knocking about here.

I broke the kettle earlier. Bugger, and double bugger.

Oh well, I'll have to have a beer instead...   ...which is just as well, as Project Brackley Pub Crawl starts in approx 30 mins :D

;D well, does Wales count? The telematics has proved to be invaluable when my phone died...it saved me a lot of hassle. As soon as you're able to, I'll bring it back over so you can have it back...although it is rather nice having it working  ::)

cuppa in hand.....  but not calming down much....  however i aim to be totally clam and collected tomorrow.....       remind myself it's just a car, and it's not an elite.
 ::)

but frankly i've been wanting to get a replacement since january....   and now i've reached the point of desperation....

if i could wait another couple of weeks  i'd have more budget, and i have seen a sweet loking 2003 elite for £2795, but there's no way it'll be there by the time i get paid...  and i have trips to make befoe then that i simply don't trust my elite to survive....  at present....

engine wise and drive train she's pretty good , but the exhaust is now a bent pile of rattles and knocks , and the exhaust manifold is hanging off , and she could really use new front discs.   and the suspension feels soggier than it ought to

the rest is largely cosmetic....

so bite the bullet time....  get another one,  bring the older one up to decently roadworthy nick, and either keep it for sentimental reasons, or move it on to a new appreciative owner....    probably only break even on the repairs....    but i'd rather see it loved and used than scrapped.

unless i win the lotto this weekend, in which case that lovely black thing at Josh's WILL be mine !!!

(even at the end of the ,month i'd still be a grand short on it  after i've paid all the bills, or i'd have simply bought that from him... SOMEONE's got to... it's gorgeous.... )

Yeah, TM is useful, ESP as it's a full power device, so normally picks up a signal, even on voda!

Must check if elite has the wiring, if so, I'll be on lookout for another

Rather than making another thread, I thought I'd ask here.

I have an '01 3.2 Elite with the Siemens NCDC 2015, when I bought the car it didn't come with any Nav discs.

The only place that I've found where I can get a disc is here (http://www.navigation.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/WFS/Navteq-NavteqEurope-Site/en_GB/-/GBP/ViewProductDetail-Start?ProductUUID=LOYKCghBXhcAAAEdR8IIIRmO&CatalogCategoryID=PncKCggRFC0AAAEOyMptNDzd&HideCrumb=&JumpTo=OfferList&PersistNavigationMenu=YES)

Is there anywhere else I can get the disc cheaper, and possibly more up to date?

Also I've no experience with using on board nav systems, is this one any good?  Or should I not bother and just use my TomTom/google maps on the phone.

Thanks

Very very unlikely!

I'm working on obtaining more Telematics...  Board swapping may be the subject of the next meet!

I think the D-Elite would benefit from an upgrade as well  :)

I recently picked up a 2010 UK & ROI disc off ebay de.  The 2010 discs are only available as "complete sets" so the continental buyers sometimes sell the disks they don't require. You have to be patient, but one eventually comes up. I paid £27 for the disk I got including postage.

There is one on at the moment .. but at a silly price IMHO !!
