Title: Cracked Exhaust Manifold
Post by: MTK1919 on 10 October 2010, 17:23:37
Hi all

Following on from my other post regarding a few issues, I have now discovered that I have a cracked exhaust manifold.

Its on a Y reg 2.2 CD Auto (petrol) which has done 127k.

I did notice it was quite noisey when starting up from cold, but with not having anything else to compare it with, I wasnt sure if it was normal or not.  I am experiencing cold start problems which ive been advised, points to a problem with the cam sensor but at the time I just assumed this is noisey cold start was all part of the same problem.

Well today I took off the heat shield and discovered the following.

So a few questions I have regarding this.

1 - Are these manifolds expensive to buy new, or should I just try and source a good second hand one?

2 - How hard are they to fit.  I see access is ok, apart from the aircon pipe.  Can the manifold be manouvered around this to fit, or can the pipe be removed easily?

3 - Although noisy ish when cold, it soon quietens when warm.  How long can I expect it to last and is there any danger in using it whilst I get the parts sorted.

4 - Performance wise, I guess this will affect things with regards to poor cold starts and sluggishness when on the move?

Thanks

Matt

Not cheap new but quite easy to source 2nd hand. Easy to fit but be sure to use a genuine multi-layer gasket and be careful of snapped studs :y

it can be welded (not sure it will keep long)  but as welung says much better to shop a second hand..

for the stud.. you need to squirt some hydraulics before , let it react and tap them strongly (vertically)

if one resist not to turn.. continue tapping.. once they snap, its means trouble and the distance is fairly small to drill the studs.. :-/

You can post a wanted at in the Test posts section and then one of the moderators will move it to the sale & wanted section for you..

(It's only for sale ads you can't post until 250 posts)

Looks a lot easier to access than on the V6..my advise would be to replace either with new(but costly)or get one from a breaker.

Thanks mate, much appreciated. :y

I'm in Altrincham, (south manchester area) so only about 1hr away from you.

I'll gonna get a replacement manifold sorted, and then I may well give you a shout if you dont mind?

Thanks again.
