The error was 71 - error in comms with drivers side sensor.

Cleaned the seat connector (always worth doing), the sensor plug itself, and the main door connector.  Cleared codes.

Any other ideas are welcomed.

My view is to swap drivers and passenger sensors over (if they are interchangable) and see if fault moves to passenger side, or stays with drivers side.

I am sh*t scared of playing with airbags and sensors(unless done remotely). I have had one go off in my face and its not nice

Is that the side impact sensor? If so be a buggar to swap about coz they are rivited in and probably not swappable , but i guess to test your theory you could drill em out swap em over but just let em dangle if the holes dont align up :-/

looks like drivers side one was bolted. dealer already changed this a year or so ago, but we know how dealers lie...

Yes i do  >:( but if its bolted in then dealer probably has changed it.....think you might find passenger side is rivited if it hasnt been changed.....mine are....and as AA's is a facelift too would assume the same on his.

Is this the same door that had the rust repair done on it by the Vx dealer...?

£44.75 but I said how about a trade discount, and she had a word with the parts manager, gave it to me for £37.50.

The original air bag sensor (drivers door) was replaced under warranty.

When TheBoy and I took off the door card there was signs of previous activity as the inner skin was ripped around the air bag sensor.

TheBoy cleaned up the contacts and the air bag light seemed to reset.

Drove all the way back to Brum, no probs.

Went out later to the local post office, no probs.

Came out of the post office and started driving home and at about half way, the air bag light came on again.

Agreed, this was the door that was rust treated by the dealer, but that must be around 3/4 months ago.

He told me he didn't have to remove the door card.

Will it fail the MOT with the air bag light on, it's due for it's MOT in a months time?

Right - changed the air bag sensor in drivers door.

Tried every which way but can't get the centre console off.

Tried every which way but can't get the drivers kick panel off.

Fed up. :(

To remove the kick panel.....pop the plastic covers off the side trims (they have vauxhall or omega or something written on them) to reveal some Torx screws.

Remove the torx screws so that you can lift the end of the trim up to reveal a screw which secures the bottom edge of the kick panel.

The panel can then be unclipped and removed....

Ran out of time on this as I had to go and pick up the grandchildren.

Anyway, I've replaced the door sensor and re-sealed the door skin.

See you tomorrow morning TB.

Hopefully changing the airbag sensor has fixed it AA  :y

But if it doesnt  :'( it ought to fail mot for airbag light on......so what you could do as a temp bodge to pass mot....is remove the clocks (even i can do that in 5 mins) and do a little rewiring job on the airbag light  ;) needs a little skill with a soldering iron.....but quite easy  :y

Well it's a trip down to TB's in the morning to get it reset with his TechII, if all else fails we thought of wiring it up to the ABS light.

Will give a progress report sometime tomorrow.

Thanks for the well wishes.

And another screw up near bonnet release lever on prefacelifts, presume facelift is the same?

Just got back from TB's after having the Air Bag Light reset no that a new sensor is fitted.

TB reset the light, we took it for a drive round, switched on and off a few times , so far so good.

Stopped off at the motorway services on the way back for about 15 mins.

Started OK, no air bag light.

Arrived home OK still no air bag light.

Going to leave it for an hour and test it again.

Fingers crossed.
