Title: gearbox again!!!!!

hi,

can anyone please advise, l have a 2.5 elite auto estate which l piked up for almost nothing, on way home the gaerbox decided to pack up, l replaced it with a seconhand box, it drives ok apart from sometimes its sticks in 3rd jumps to 3000 revs then makes a loud bang goes into gear with automatic gearbox coming on the display.

any suggestions please :-[

First question is ...... Is the oil level in the gearbox correct (been checked level and warm and having run through the gears) ?
