help think my gearbox has given it up getting fault code p0730 gear ratio incorrect which have been told means clutch giving up in box and cant afford £1200 for a refurb  :'(

Your gearbox is automatic and as such has no clutch to speak of.
Check your fluid level, see how to:

Clutch in this case would almost certainly be referring to 'brake bands' - also known as 'clutch bands' depending on who you talk to ;) If they're slipping and not stalling the right combination of planetary drives then the final output ratio ends up wrong and this code comes up..

Which could be a fluid (low pressure) problem as you say, or a solenoid problem, or a brake band problem, or the thrust bearing on the input end broken down..

Still if it's still doing it after a fluid change I'd be much more inclined to sling a £200 s/hand box on than pay £1200 for a refurb ;)

if i recall correctly, there are 4 "clutches"and 1 brake band in the ar25/35
