Ive just come back from another vx dealer
They gave me more information....
Apparently 1st stage pressure is fine
2nd stage isnt and wont adjust
Verdict.......Needs new evaportator
Same verdict as 1st vx dealer......so i guess it does need a new one :(
1st dealer wanted £660 to change it
This dealer wanted £415 to change it! Bit of a difference :o
And reckoned the evaporator was £220......which was included in the £415
Question is....can I get the evaporator any cheaper and can I change it myself :-/
Im sure I can get the blighter out......but was wondering about precautions to take??
Not bothered about the water side part.....it was the lpg part....as lpg can burn.
Can i just undo the lpg pipe going to the evaporator.....i assume it might have liquid lpg in it?? :-/
Will there be a valve on the tank that i should turn off first??
Cheers

One for Martin methinks....

Hi TD I wouldn't worry to much about the LPG leaking as there are 3 solenoids, one on the tank, one before the evaporator and one on the evaporator so there will only be a tiny amount of LPG to leak anyway.
-
Slacken pipe in a well ventilated area, while LPG system is off solenoids won't be operated, do not undo fully as it will be very cold.
When it has leaked out undo fully while wearing gloves

Thanks for replies guys.......but after i visited local vx dealer to order a new evaporater, i discovered the price, the part is not on TC, but parts guy did give me trade price £280 :o
So as its that much im going let the dealer change it, the one that quoted me £415
Coz chances are, it will still need setting up pressure wise so will still have to go back to dealer to have that done......so i dont actually save very much plus it save me the grief of trying to change it ;)

Oooh pricey
Most evaporators are under £100

Hi, I don't want to hijack this thread but just wanted to ask if Martin is the resident lpg expert? If so, could I pm you with a query?
Cheers Jim

If its an easy one....i might know....harder questions probably better answered by someone else.......just ask the question here or start a new thread.....better in a thread than PM.....coz it might help others or help me if i dont the answer....at least i'll learn summat :)

Not really an expert - just done a DIY install

Thanks Taxi driver, I'll ask here first then maybe start a new thread :) My lpg system on the GLS is a single point but the car that donated it's engine was multipoint. I was wondering if it would be worth while getting the other bits from the donor cars engine bay and upgrading mine at a later date? I'm not sure if this is possible, I'd assume that the rear end is the same but I'm not sure if it's worth the effort to change the front part of the system?
Cheers Jim

Multipoint - definately, better consumption and more power.
Rear ends will be the same - get off the old one, the evaporator, ECU, injectors, any sensors and controls also as much wiring as possible.

Taxi the Vaps are easy to replace i took mine off and on to clean it.
Only had to disconnect one high pressure gas pipe, one low pressure rubber Gas Pipe and two water hoses, Oh I replaced the olive on the Copper Gas pipe to help no leaks.
I only lost a tiny amount of gas taking the pipe off, just make sure your not having a smoke when doing the job :)

I was back at the breakers today and some git had beaten me to the remaining lpg bits at the front. looks like I'm sticking with single point for the time being after all ::)

Cheers Craig.......but i whimped out and let the vx dealer do it.....they way i looked at it was.....£280 for new evapourator.....swearing and getting cuts....then another £50 ish to have the pressures set up....and taken more time off not working.....i might as well let the dealer do the job.....was done this morning....and seems to working ok.....not given it a real test yet......it has switched back to petrol once driving about town....but not every 2 mins like it was doing....so will have to give it a few good hours of plodding about town to see if its fixed.
So next question is.....i now have a KOLTEC VG392 evapourator......that i guess is poorly....can it be repaired?? Can you get repair kits for them??
You say you cleaned yours Craig? Could this be all thats wrong with my now poorly spare one?
I havent taken it apart yet......but do they get bunged up then??
Cheers

The can do in where the hot water enters and leaves there is a small area that lets the Gas get Vaped, Mine Had alittle junk in it but i have heard they can get really blocked up from time to time.
Also have a look at the Gas Fuel Filter to make sure it is nice and clean they can also get blocked up like and paper filter system.
