My suggestion would be that we try and convince Vauxhall to set up a form of liaison group with a Vauxhall Technical Panel/Customer Service working with representatives of this forum to resolve those issues which forum members find difficult to deal with either because good advice is not in the dealerships or repair costs and spares are disproportionate to the fault.
This liaison group could be web based but with say a face to face every 6 months or so . It may be that this group also works with the Vectra/Signum forum and maybe others as long as we avoid duplication.
We should take care that it does not become a complaints panel for forum members to complain about individual dealers - it is more to do with VX understanding that the people who buy their products deserve fair treatment and I think my dealer would be the first to admit that they would benefit from info from this site but they are not allowed web access from service reception!!
I think that this forum has a big part to play in shaping an improved VX service to loyal customer base.
Any views. I have already written to VX with the suggestion without naming any websites or forums.
I just feel there is a big gap and hopefully not between my ears!!

Whist I admire your efforts, unfortunately I can't see VX taking any interest at all. Not because it's a bad idea, but because it's VX.
They're not going to agree to take on board the views of a bunch of online enthusiasts, I'm afraid - and it would take more resource to do it.
-
I don't believe VX would be able to contribute much to the level of expertise available here either.

Can't imagine they would want to contribute to a fan base of an (sadly) obsolete car :(
-
I AGREE JIMBOB, BUT AT SOMETIME THE OWNERS OF OMEGAS ARE GOING TO HAVE TO REPLACE THEM, AND VX WOULD HOPE THAT IT WOULD BE WITH A NEW VAUXHALL. IT WOULD BE IN THERE INTREST TO TAKE NOTICE OF THOSE WHO WOULD LIKE TO STAY LOYAL TO VX :y

Now you are applying common sense and forethought arn't you! I've warned you about that before ;D

SORRY, I MUST BE A GOOD BOY :'(

the car is obsolete, but VX aftersales still make good money out of the Omega in the same way that they make good money out of a lot of their obsolete cars.
The problem with VX customer services is there are very few people who are technical, most of them are call centre based and use the same tool as the parts staff.
it's not a bad idea, knowing Vauxhall of old its not something they would want to be involved with though
-
I have received a reply from VX which suggests that the matters I raised have been referred to the Technical Department but it is not clear whether I will receive a reply.
I have asked for clarification on this. I will pursue the idea patiently.

I spoke to a friend at a local dealer a few weeks back and moaned about Vauxhall not having a rear wheel drive car anymore (ignoring monaro).
His reply was "watch this space"
So has anyone heard if Vauxhall may make a rear drive car again ?
At the end of the day the Omega sold very well for Vauxhall and had many used buyers purely because it is rear wheel drive.
Some manufacturer has got to make a RWD car soon as the choice is so limited at the moment, buy bmw and be labelled a selfish yuppie, or buy a mercedes and everyone thinks your a taxi. rant over
Regards
Mike

No rear wheel drive model planned but, a 4 wheel drive Vectra is on the cards.....

In response to question re replacement Omega or similar please note article below from Just Auto in September 07 - I think I have posted this somewhere before.
"14 Sep 2007.
General Motors vice chairman of global product development, Bob Lutz,
has ruled out building a coupe version of the Opel/Vauxhall Vectra replacement,
likely to be badged Insignia, which is due on sale in Europe in September next
year.
GMs veteran product guru also declared that future Opel and Vauxhall
lines will not be topped by a long-rumoured larger car.
Asked to comment on reports that GM sales and marketing executives had warmed
to an Insignia coupe after an enthusiastic media and public response to the
Geneva show GTC concept car, Lutz said: There is no review and it is not
for production.
But he promised that the Insignia hatchback and sedan would be pretty
stunning compared to the upright and stiff looking Vectra. He added:
Every line and all the surfaces are harmonious and generate a great deal
of dynamism and thrust. It is about customers putting aesthetics ahead of
practicality in the first place because they want to buy better looking
cars.
Although Renaults Laguna coupe drew rave responses at Frankfurt, GM
analysts point to the small European upper medium coupe market, with the
Peugeot 407s main claim to fame being that it outsells its larger 607
sedan sibling in non-French markets.
The coupe market is largely the domain of premium brands like BMWs 3
Series, Mercedes CLK plus the newly arrived Audi A5, with
Infinitis G37 due next year.
On the decision not to build a successor to the late Opel/Vauxhall Omega
(dropped in 2002), Lutz said: There is no plan to have an ultra-Opel, or
a really expensive top of the line Opel at this time.

I personaly would like to see such a car under a Saab badge which is at the end of the day the Gm premium brand
-
Does Bob Lutz have shares in BMW and Mercedes?
A good large car with non premium brand name will always find buyers with those who do not want to stick out.
-
They wont build another RWD car as FWD is cheaper to build. I think the Omega platform was the last RWD "World" car from GM as it was used by Vauxhall, Opel, Chevy & Holden.
Christ they won't even bring this into the UK, iys only being made in wrong hand drive, available in Europe and the US
I think that this would blow away the BMW Z3 & 4 cars. Its 20 turbo, 268 bhp with 283 Nm torque.
I had a good look at one of these last year while in Germany but wasn't able to drive it. A friend of mine was invited as a special guest for the US launch in Palm Springs, reckonds its a great little car.
Anyway, pictures

Not sure it would blow away Z3/Z4 saleswise. There are too many people who can't see past the BMW badge - people like my brother - and won't consider other marques...
As an example, look on ebay for Omega 2.5TD and see what a big fuss sellers make of the fact it has a BMW engine...

Hehe. Can't see past the fact that it's also about the lardiest feeling "2 seater sports car" on earth.
