Title: coolent leak by drain plug

ive got a coolent leak seems to be around the drain plug is it a common problem cheers ajn

Not really a common leak, there's 2 O rings that make the seal, so don't tighten it up hard in the hope it'll stop the leak, you'll only break something. A new drain tap/plug is only a few quid, but you then have more anti-freeze to put back .... unless you catch & re-use the old stuff  ::)  ::)

that's a very rusty shake proof washer at the bottom.  ;)

I assume when you say drain plug you mean on the bottom of the radiator? Give it a wipe over and have a good look where the  leak is from. If it is the plug they aren't much new from Vauxhall. Seen a few leak when over tightened and broken.

I thought mine was from there until I had a close look. It turned out to be from the top of the rad, where the top hose joins. The rad was cracked and it was seeping down from the top.
Worth bearing in mind if it turns out to be not from the drain plug.
Would also advise not to mess with it while the engine is hot.
I made that mistake and got boiling hot coolant all over my arms.
Twas rather painful for a week or two. :-[ ::)

Yeah I've had that cracked plastic problem too. PITA as I couldn't find anything to seal it.  Mind you the HG was failing at the time and overpressurising the system, so that probably didn't help.

Oh, and Andy, if you want to borrow my picture in future, feel free.  Shows both o-rings properly seated, and has super-technical wordy-bits.  ;D

You're quite right, one of my O rings isn't seated is it!

I think mine's a better picture though!  ;D  ;D  ;D   :P  :y
