someone close to me has a very powerful motor which takes my breath away everytime i go in it.
i'll reveal all with a few pics in a bit, just want to see what everyone else comes up with first ;)

Awesome Car for the time I have had two 2.8's...
But my mates Scooby is the fastest car I have been a passenger in :o
-
few years ago i was installing some vending machines at marinello at egham, they are the main ferrari importer for England and was offered the chance to drive the then new F355 spider, "OH ! THE NOISE THAT THING MADE!!!!!" :o :y
-
Not necessarily the flashiest of car but an experience all the same.
In 1991 I was taken for a drive (for the experience as an IAM member, honest!!!!!!!) in a 2.8 Sierra 4x4 plain clothes police car driven by a Herts traffic driver trainer type person. It is so very true that it is not just the speed reached, but how the car is driven. I remember it well, an excellent experience never been driven so fast, no regard to speed limits. Mainly B roads and Motorway.
:) :) :)

as far as i can remember, a chipped up scooby. the fastest (accellerating)car i have owned was my chevette hs (twin 48 dellortos, blydenstien ex.manifold etc) it was 1979, i was young free single with a nice motor,a few bob and hair! happy days. ;D

Saw a HS Chevette in Blackpool (white with black windows) in the dry just keep gettin its arse out every time he put his foot down, and it sounded nice too :y
Mates Scooby had been chipped dont know what to but it was fast 8-)

Mate sold his for the same reason cost him a fortune to run, petrol and servicing apparently :-?
-
I think Ford made some really nice sporty cars at one time, RS Turbo, Sierra Cosworth, Capri 2.8i, XR4i, dont think they do a car i like now :-[

In the old days, late 70’s early 80’s Driven most Russell Brookes (Andrews Heat For Hire) Rally Cars, Mk 1 and 2 Escort, Sunbeam, Chevette and Manta. These were all spare / duplicate cars fully loaded and a hoot to drive. Company Policy, at the time (Andrews) Was if you got caught speeding in one you got the sack!
For a couple of years used to follow the RAC Rally in an Andrews Transit, no parking problems you could get anywhere. By coincidence we were overtaken by Russell Brookes at Kielder one night and simply followed him down to the beginning of the stage, marshals assumed I was the support vehicle, I did not argue.
Always wanted one of the support vehicles, as a company van, I tried, but got one of the 1st Mk2 Transits instead, in the early days when Andrews did all the support themselves they ran V6 Transits.

C**ked that post up!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tab , you bet i did, made me nervous though as i was driving a car worth more than me house. Great fun it was. :y

Monaro
Ex works rally Evo5 on gravel and tarmac
On a power to weight ratio (which is whats important!)
Elise
VX220 Turbo (what a great car!)
Westfield SEight
Westfield Megbusa
Formula Lotus single seater (used the C20XE engine)

Passenger in an AC Cobra....awesome :o
-
Driven a few 911's including the very scary old 3.6 twin turbo.
Never liked them though.
Stage 3 Sierra Cosworth (rally spec). Breathtakingly fast on boost.
Standard Evo 8. Quick but not something I would want
Been a passenger in a Lotus Carlton. The power is immense and seems endless! 8-)
Passenger in Vx220 turbo... bl**dy quick car!!
Owned a couple of Saabs which were..."savage" in their acceleration on the road (handling was not so good!)

Yeah, one of my brother has one, as does a mate. No slouch by any means. Quickest K series I've ever been in :o
A chipped up Imprezza was no slouch either, though I was slightly disappointed. Great from standing start though.
Back in early 90s, Rover 220 turbo. If you could get the bugger moving, that had some go, reasonable in the bends if you weren't too brutal with the gas on way out...
-
Powerful, or fast? If the former, than I would have to say a lorry....
-
My old 1992 Trans-Am GTA= None standard.
It light up back tyres all too easy, the torque that engine produced was awsome. Straight through exhausts coupled up to that MASSIVE V8, it sounded (sorry, gota go & change my underware)
I had to sell, cos i couldn't afford to run it= my right foot was made of lead when i got in it. Upset quite a few folk in alot more expensive cars=BMWs, TVRs etc, oh yeh & a guy in his bright red italian piece of poo ;D ;D ;D ;D
I had a sticker on the back that read "i must stop wagging my tale" :)

LOL.
I may have to sell my beloved tractor for similar reasons - can't afford the rear tyres ::)
-
had a metro 6r4 in at the old rover dealership work shop forman took us all out for a spin [litterally lol] so quick off the line it was mental!!
:)
-

Yeah, a 800+ Scania is the most powerful for me. The most breathtaking was my sisters 500bhp Cosworth (Sapphire) That had about 10 or 15k spent on the engine and she only paid about 4.5k (previous owner lost his licence - LOL) That was about 8 years ago now. I'm sure I have probably been in faster since... Hmm? Can't think what though. I just remember being sat glued to the seat while we went from petrol station to patrol station (the reason she sold it!). There was no need for music it was far to mind blowing for that.
***Goes off to look at fast cars on eBay***

Yes but, not a patch on the VX220 Turbo.....

Most powerful been in and driven I think is a BMW 535, fastest is my old 600 bike.
My dads most powerful was a 535 turbo around 700bhp when driven by another mechanic who was a bike racer. Not saying anymore in a public forum.
-
my memory doesnt serve me that well but quite recently i was in a mate's leon cupra R which had been chipped to 250hp
ALOT quicker than i thought it would be!!
-
Quickest car I have driven was a Nissan R33 Skyline GT-R and it was every bit as good as I hoped it would be..
Had a passenger ride once at Rockingham by the Lotus On-Track guys - I went in an Exige with a supercharged Honda Type-R engine with 300bhp. That thing was completely mental for both power and handling and how people drive them on the road and keep their licenses I don't know!
-
Back in 1971 my uncle traded his 1963 Chrysler 300, (non-Letter Series) with a measly 300HP, for a Plymouth Barracuda with a 426cu Hemi V8 putting out 425HP. Back then we weren't concerned about handling. Drag racing was the thing and that car sure could move. What a kick in the ass when he floored it. And what sound. Never did get to drive it but I'll always remember that ride.

Chipped it should be 300+, go pretty well.
-
Most powerfull ive been in was my mates granada drag car at santa pod thats running 1000bhp+ and quickest (hopefully) will be in 3 weeks when i get to race a nascar in florida
-
:)Quickest driven was next doors Mitsubishi GTO twin turbo manual.
Passenger in EVO6 (rather' mind blowing) with driver who knew what he was doing with it.
Many years ago 68/9 Plymouth Barracuda 7.? litre. Totally unrefined like being hit up the a**e by a truck & as hard to hold onto but i guess that's the point really! (plus the sound even ticking over)
I had a Dutton Phaeton with 1600GT X-flow years ago which was a great laugh but a bit tired by the time i got it but still had that "raw" feel these cars give you. Love to try a modern version one day.
My personal favourite was a 77 MK2 Eccy RS2000. Light mods, twin 40's (battery in boot) slightly stiffened shocks & a quick rack, not supercar fast but could hold it's own on a A/B road blat.
Lastly i'm going to admit to once owning an MX5 (cue the jokes) but i like 'em. Not that quick but cheap RWD fun & reliable.
Still, it's the Eccy for me. :P :D

Prob the most powerful car I have driven was a Mondeo ST24. It was a hire car. We were used to getting base model Vectras so this was quite a surprise, and great fun too. I guess the speed cameras on the M11 weren't working that week!.
As far as bikes, I used to have a BSA 350, fairly heavy but got up to speed eventually. A friend let me try his BSA650, which had a Wal Phillips fuel injector and a few other goodies, so I headed off. Came to a normal road and wound open the throttle as I did with my own bike. This was a bad idea, cause the 650 took off like a rocket, and it was all I could do to hang on, never mind trying to grab the brakes or clutch. Fortunately a hill came up which slowed me down!.

Probably not the most powerful but the most fun:
Was kind-of the "sister car" to my Westfield. Mate of mine came across the bits languishing in a barn. Guy had lost interest in building it just as I was starting my build so we built the two cars together.
It's a Dax Rush with a 270BHP Cosworth Turbo.
I still wonder why my mate sold it :'(

Liked my TR6 but really enjoyed driving ex Le Mans winning Ford GT40 many years ago. Capable of 220mph + and bloody quick off the line!!
-
awsome lotus carlton! its great to see one, most powerful car, its got to be the nissan skyline r32 twin turbo, it was owned by a chinese lad who brought it into the garage where i used to work, he reguarly let us all take it out, it was modded to about 600bhp, a total animal! but still the best will always be my neighbours '84 911 carrera 3.2, you just cant beat them can you!
-
My mates 480 bhp Corvette such a fast car unbelievable :y
-
Once upon a time in a land far far away (ie NZ) I bought a 72 Mini with a clubman nose, 1320cc 100bhp at the well hubs,it had 4 disc brakes, wide minilite mags and yokohama 165/70/10 tyres, a custom MG/B instrument set, no grill, an oil cooler on the front bumper between two Hella 160W rally spots, a battery kill switch on the right of the boot and a 8½ gallon petrol tank and a full roll cage, custom extractors and a single cooper box into a twin tip on the back 8-).....stereo..we dont need no stinkin stereo ;D
colour.....spraycote matt black :o
fast....hhmmm...... ;) does 'clocking' the 100mph on the speedo then back around to 30+mph count as fast :-? ;D I figure that meant it was going about 140+ mph at 6"s off the ground never got it too it top speed due to running out of straight road ;D it was a purpose built rally/circuit race car let loose on the roads
ps the fastest/widest one I know of is the only Audi Group B rally car left out in the wild...ie not locked away by Audi, it was the 'spare' they brought to NZ for the NZ Rally and a friend bought it, but wont let me drive it :'(
-
Had to have a think about this and i think it was a Renult Willams Cleo limited Editon, When i was Working in a garage many moons ago.
Edit lol it was my mates GF dads Ford Sierra Cosworth in mint mint condition it now lives in his garage with a brand new engine from Cosworth with no milage hardly, Its a totaly waste a car to be driven not stuck in a garage, but i do remember it sucked fuel like there was a hole in the tank
-
Is it about the most powerful? Or is it about the most fun!!!!!!
Lets be hones supercars are mostly too fast to be legal or safe on ordinary roads, Track days etc, well that is a different story.
Read the story of the Mini in NZ, Speedo can not go around again but never mind.
Surly it is about fun, I remember a night in 1991 going from Hertford to the Beehive Pub in Epping Green, I was in a new Mini Cooper, they only were going to build 1200, and noticed lights in the mirror, long and winding roads he gradually caught me up on straighter bits, left him miles behind on the bends. Coincidently he pulled into the same pup car park, he was a yuppie in an mx5. No massively high top speeds, kept to speed limits!! Honest, but great fun. Is that not what it is all about, enjoying our cars?
-
Hi Mike,
yes you are right there was a little pin that used to stop the needle going past 100mph but when you looked at the speedo you could see where it used to be and the pin used to roll around at the bottom of the gauge....I wonder why..... ;D
It was an old smiths mechicanial gauge
-
Yep, I remember then well. Thought they were either 90 or 110 mph.
-
fastest car Ive been in is my cousins rs6. shame its got to go, the local pond life keep trying to nick it. feel sorry him really its something hes worked hard for.the last straw came just before christmas when he was bumped at the lights just to get him out of his car.
Daz
-
The fastest car I have owned was a Vx Carlton 3.0 ltr 24v Gsi.
As per the previous post, pond life kept trying to steal it, couldn't leave it anywhere >:(, had to get rid in the end :(

Most powerfult car i have owned was a Mk2 cavalier Convertible......
Started life as a 1800, then we dropped an XE in there that was rolling roaded at 172bhp, got bored of that and ended up with a 2.5 V6 in it.
3.0 G Cams, modified throttle body, high pressure fuel reg, decatted, stainless exhaust, flowed heads, iridium plugs with a pipercross viper filter kit.
The whole lot was putting out 202 at the flywheel when it was rolling roaded, the only issue was getting a gearbox that would handle the power as the V6 box would not fit into the engine bay :-?
We ended up using a 1800 wide ratio box, it would pull 32 in 1st 63 in second 96 in third and on the rolling road day it was still pulling 130 in 4th and hadn't hit the limiter......
Because it had the aerodynamics of a house brick and a fabric roof we never tried it about 120.....it got a bit hairy as when the roof was down the wind would get under it and start to lift it, the bloody thing would act as an air brake :y

The fastest car i have ever been in (it seemed like it at the time anyway) was an RS1800 Escort driven by Roger Clarke. My Uncle used to work for him and Roger took me out in it, my Arse cheeks have never been the same since :-/ I then went on to buy an RS2000 and after a lot of money and time it produced 195BHP. at the time circa 1986 and pound for pound it was the quickest car i have ever owend and gave great balls to the wall performance........................if only i had have kept it, they are fetching a bomb now :'(

i used to own a well modified mg meastro turbo 1990 !! built it for drag racing 250ish bhp 1/4 mile time of low 13secs !! that was well rapid !! also been a very scared back seat passenger in a 550bhp sapphire cossie 4x4 !! :o :o

my car other car is a 1996 skyline r33 gtst..had a few mods on it doing about 400.bhp. only rear wheel drive. great fun :o
-
Most powerful car? XJS V12 I think. No idea what BHP they were, but it was quick - too quick for a wet road.
I remember seeing one in southern germany some years ago. The autobahn semed to be full of BMW and Merc drivers needling each other at 120 MPH plus, when out of nowhere came an XJS (on Italian plates). It was wonderful watching the BMWs and Mercs dutifully moving out of its way - a bit like the parting of the waves! If only I had had an Elgar CD to hand! ;D
-
Have been in a XJ220 and also a RS200 with all its fiesta switch gear but not on the road only in the workshop. Quickest car i have driven is probably Tom Walkinshaws Volvo 850R with twin Turbos , don't know what BHP it was chucking out but it was far too much for a FWD. Been in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang aswell if that counts :D
-
I've driven a TWR tuned 6 litre V12 XJS with full driver involvement pack.
Mate of mine nearly bought it. Engine was uncannily quiet. Kept looking at the tacho to see if it was still running. It was pretty rapid, just a never ending wall of torque delivered with no fuss whatsoever.
The rest of the car felt a bit of a bus, TBH, but it was no spring chicken and I guess the suspension was a bit tried. I hate to think what the fuel consumption was like :o
Kevin
-
M 8-)most powful car i been in was a 5litre v10 vw touareg i had to take back to a customer.

I had a 6ltr Daimler Double Six which had 318 BHP the only problem is it was about 318 tonnes. It could still go quite well once you got it moving :)
-
I was lucky enough to drive a 600bhp Holden Monaro V8 Supercar around Phillip Island race circuit in Australia a couple of years ago. Easily the fastest car I've driven but I doubt I ever got it above 60mph... for two reasons...
1. I needed both feet on the clutch to push the damn thing to the floor.
2. Well, frankly, I was sh1tt1ing myself! ;D
One of the race mechanics took me for a couple of laps around the track afterwards to show how it should be done. I spent 90% of it with my eyes shut. :-[
-
My parents once bought me a track day at Thruxton. Started off in Rover 220 turbos and graduated up to formula ford single seaters and then had a go in a formula renault..
Pretty tame, unfortunately, due to the low rev limits set >:(
Anyway, my Mum came along to watch and they were offering rides round the track for a few quid. Mum thought this would be interesting and, not being particularly car savvy, thought nothing of it as she was strapped into the passenger seat of a works prepped rover SD1 Vitesse ;D
Needless to say I think they lapped everything else on the track and she came back a nervous wreck ;D

That reminds me, I have a 4x4 day to take in the next couple of months.
Birthday pressy from the family last year.
-
Probably a Formula Palmer Audi single seater round Brands Hatch. Although restricted to 6000rpm (if you took any notice!! ::)) it was blisteringly quick and stuck to the track like glue. Managed to post the second fastest lap of the day. :y
Fastest road cars I've driven is probably my boss's Jag XKR 4 litre supercharged V8 - an absolute animal!! and my mate used to have an AC Cobra replica powered by a 4.5 litre Mustang engine mated to a Toyota 5 speed gearbox. Plant your right foot and it was like being kicked in the back by a horse. :y
-
My chum has recently sold his E55...now that was scary fast. He had a de-cat zorst and a few other tweaks done to it...including the removal of the speed restrictor. Last year, he got 201mph on the German autobahn on GPS.
