After getting the cambelt and water pump done at 40k, the head gasket on my 2.2 went at 57k. New cam belt fitted again. Now covered 84k and was wondering if I'm playing Russian roulette with the pump as they suggest changing with the cambelt which is normally due at 80k. I was planning on getting the belt changed again at 90k, should the pump be ok til then? Thanks for any advice.

Sorry thats not correct, Cambelt and tensioners must be changed every 4 years or 40k which ever is first. For peace of mind, i change the waterpump with cambelt, as if that goes so does the engine....
Officially the water pumps last 80k, but many have failed early.
Also I would be a tad worried the HG failed at 57k, mines not failed and its on 151k, make sure you keep a good mix of anti-freeze in your coolant, i personally change mine once a year :y

Waterpump is more critical on 2.2, as its cambelt driven.
I think, however, you could consider yourself extremely unlucky if it went before the next time the belt is due.

I think you'll be fine to wait until 90k.
My V6 water pump started grumbling at 111k miles (having never been replaced).
On the V6 they recommend changing the water pump as a precaution every other cambelt i.e. every 80k miles. On the 2.2 I suspect they're just playing a bit safer because it's driven by the cambelt.

Quick hijack of this thread been offered a 2.2 with blown head gasket. 81K is the water pump a likely cause? do the heads warp easily or is it a case of just a new gasket, pump and a good flush?

Mine failed at 160 000 km so you'll probably be fine.
Ballcock there are more reasons for the headgasket to fail, one of the main ones being not using the proper collant in the migs. When the headgasket was skimmed on my car it was due to waterpump breaking and the belt skiping so no idea is it easy for the head to get warped

Thanks fellas. It'd cost me more than £20 odd quid though as I wouldn't have a clue what to do so it's a garage job. I guess I'll carry on playing and see if I can get it to 90k. Thanks for the advice on the coolant btw.
