Post by: chrism551 on 04 November 2010, 20:45:39
The windows in my mig estate seem to be steaming up when i have the heaters on, do i have a leak or is there moisture getting in to the heater box maybe??

Check the opening in the wiper skuttle (just under the windscreen on the passenger side) for a puddle of water. there is a HowTo in the maintenance guide index for cleaning the drain under the pollen filter :y

I hope this helps but it might not be the reason your car is icing up on the inside but its worth a look as it can stop other problems later on like wet carpets  :y

Also check the vents in the boot, bottom of the "first aid" cupboard, right hand side. If they are blocked by rags/gloves/assorted crap then the system will get very humid and lead to condensation.

This is the same effect as running on "recirculate" ... no fresh air = high humidity = condensation

have had a look and the scuttle is clear, in fact at the bottom is a large hole where i assume there should be some form of rubber grommet with a tube attached to direct the water away. I could also see straight into the fan housing which looked dry, but should there be a pollen filter (seems like two grooves which soemthing would slide into. should there then be a lid or cover?

The two grooves are where the pollen filter slides into place. If you have no scuttle blockage & no obvious damp patches in the cabin, then it is probably just damp/cold conditions inside the car which causes misting when a warm body gets in the car? IIRC all omegas are prone to misting (mine definately is) & is easily dealt with by either putting the screen demist on, or switching the Climate Control to Auto which will dry out the air in the car. :y

no air con doesnt work, think a regas is required, but not high on my priority at the moment, needs new exhaust, windscreen, leaky sunroof fixing, fuel pump refitting, shocks all round and a new paint job, car isnt worth it but i do like it, being old and smelly and all that :D

There's your problem. Check all the other stiff too, but It will steam up with bust ac or Eco selected. Just keep hitting demist.
