smee again ,last year i scrapped my beloved 2.5 td(bmw engine)it was a great car but just fell apart arond the engine.i've now got the 2.2dti and it aint a patch on the2.5.in the old girl i used to get 40 poodling about and 27 towing .the dti returns 22 and18.all that changing of gears is another minus point too . my question is ,is thier a later omega that gets anywhere near the old 2.5 for mpg and drivability. :(

In a short answer Tony NO.
But may i suggest a good service be done as 18-22mpg out of a diesel is shocking :o there's people on here getting more than that out of 3.2 V6's must be something wrong with yours me thinks :-/

dave,i'm getting18 towing and 22 solo poodling about, is 22 poor for the dti ? what would u consider normal
-
TBH Tony im not really sure as i don't drive an oil burner but that does seem low i would be hoping for at least 30 round town and considerably more on a run, i don't tow so can't comment on the effects that would have.
As for driveability maybe have it chipped several members on here have and it gives it that 'little bit' extra. ;)

Obviously it depends how you drive it, but I usually get around 20 mpg around town, about the same when towing on a run - we averaged 19 and a bit mpg over about 1600 miles when we went to France earlier this year. On a solo run I have seen low to mid 30 mpg, again this wasn't as silly speeds but neither was it at 56 in the nearside lane.

I get 22 around town in the 3.2V6 ..

A 2.2DTi is generally slightly more economical than a 2.5TD manual.
I would easily expect you to be getting similar to you old 2.5TD auto when not towing, but would expect more.

I get about 40mpg in an 18 y/o 2.5D transit.
That's non-turbo tho, but I am carrying about 500kgs of book most of the time, so about 3 tonnes
I do about 400-500 miles per week, about 50% on motorway, and put in 50-60 quid a week.
I had a 1.8TD mondeo that did around the same mileage on £35
22mpg in a diesel - are you sure it's not a 3.2 petrol? :)
is this based on actual usage? or is your tripcomputer fubar?

something amis with your car mate, i have a 2.2dti with 182k and can easily get 40mpg at 70 on the m3 :-/
