whats the process for changing the diff on the 2.5??
have my car in the garage currently and have just had call off the mechanic to say he's having problems, getting it changed..
says he has the diff out but now the driveshaft apparently is jammed solid and theres a small clip just on the inside of the shaft that seems to be causing him another prob. is this a simple job for someone who runs a garage everyday or do we think he's taking the preverbial? >:(
he also says that if he cant shift the shaft then its going to be a replacement one :( :(

Yep. Put a spade between diff and shaft and lever it out. Is he a mechanic or spanner jerker

update...
mechanic has just been on the blower again telling me that he has the diff and driveshaft off the car but its the driveshaft thats stuck solid the diff, thinks it may be a small clip just inside thats lodged itself in an uncomprimising position. aaarrrrrgggghhhh!!!!!! :'(

ok.......
been down to the garage and watched while he tried to knock the living daylights outa the diff.
the driveshaft had somehow siezed to the inside of the diff hence the reason he said it was jammed in.
anyway, managed to get it free with a little help from 'mr heat' and i left him to it.
ever the optimist - i got a call about an hour later with the news that the driveshaft wont fit snuggly back into the diff as i think - without him outrightly sayin it, that he's shafted the shaft aswel - kn*b!!!!
the outcome now being that another driveshaft is required, (wellung666 if you online.. :y).
The saga continues..

why didn't he just take the diff cover off and have a look.

Nothing But Nothing should need either heat or force to remove.

Double check he hasn't cooked the seal on the driveshaft hole too :y
