hello is there anyway of turning off that awful servotronic system i hate it just can i have normal steering please

There are 3 different levels of assistance available. Can be selected with a Tech 2.

What is the problem you're having with it? I can't say I notice the variable assistance at all, TBH, although reducing the assistance on mine did improve the feel IMHO.

You can just remove the servotronic unit completely and have minimum assistance all the time. It'll be relatively heavy at low speeds though.

hi sorry its very heavy and low revs like it feels the power steering is off at low revs in fact ,maybe the pump needs replaced

..... and that will be your problem.  :y :y Try a couple fluid changes first though before you condem it.  :y

Wouldn't bother changing the fluid, its the pump thats tired.  On upside, not too bad a job to change, and I'm sure any of the breakers on this site will have a good 2nd hand one at the right price :y

But as MarksDTM said, when I dismantled my pump when I replaced it, there was no obvious signs of wear. A fluid change is easier & less messy than a pump change so I'd try the easy option first.

had a good look around the car today and i found a rubber pipe with a hole in it ,to be honest i had never owned a car with this type of steering on it so im a bit lost ,the pipe runs down the front of the engine right beside the inlet pipes ,well anyway i patched it and theres a big improvement so ill leave well alone for now but cheers for all the advice

The first occasion my ABS ECU failed it didn't affect the steering. The second time however it did. Most of the time it was off but occasionally it came back as did the speedo quite independently. It was wierd and really made you realise it is quite a clever bit of kit (the speed sensitive bit).
