Title: lower steering joints
Post by: caran10 on 17 November 2010, 12:14:15
Hi, can anyone help I have just looked at my front tyres on my 2.6 and they are worn out on the inside and lumpy as well. I suspect the lower steering joints are worn ,can anyone tell me how to change them as they are rivetted to the lower wishbone
and also how can I check to see if this ia the problem
Thanks

The ball joints on the wishbones can be angle grinded off then replaced with a new ball joint with nut and bolts in place of rivets, with either locking compound on, or I have heard some people put a little weld on.

The inside tyre wear could also be caused by other suspension/steering components including a worn steering idler, also the camber might very probably need adjusting

Hi,
The lower steering joints can be replaced, kit comes with bolts & nuts to refit.

However, I suspect your problem is worn out / gone soft front wishbone bushes. this is more usual.

You would be better off replacing both wishbones. This will do the suspension bushes and lower steering joints in one job.

Lemforder wishbones available from All German Parts about £60.00 per side I think.

Folow this job with full geometry / alignment check. Preferably at WIM

How can I check if it is the wishbones and are they easy to change if that is my problem
