Hi. I am new to the forum so hello everyone. I have a 2.5 V6 omega on an R plate and have the contaminated oil problem and have been told that the head gasket has gone. Having read some of the threads I am hoping it could be the oil cooler, however when I run the car I get steam from the rear of the engine on the passenger side of the car. Has anyone got any ideas please. Thanks [smiley=sad.gif]

Where are you seeing water in oil? On filler? Short journeys?
Steam from back, HBV is possible.
Oil cooler tends to be oil in water.
HG failure causing fluids to mix is very rare on V6

Hi many thanks, the oil water mix is on the filler tube. BVery glad to hear prob not HG. :) [smiley=happy.gif]

That is considered normal and occurs frequently when car is used on short journeys, so nothing to worry about. ;)
Do you have any contamination on the dipstick?

Not HG. :y
Water leaks, hbv and mayo on the filler neck regularly cause miss diagnosis.
As a general guide
Water in the oil (mayo in the sump oil and on dipstick) = hg failed
As a definate rule
Oil in the water/cooling system= oil cooler failed.

My HBV has always steamed up on the right hand side of the car, although when my oil cooler developed a hole in the top of itself it seemed to steam more on the passenger side. :)
