Title: Starting Problems.

Hi, had 2 problems in the past 3 weeks or so where the car just turns over but does not fire...Leave it a few minutes, try again and it will start...No fault codes coming up,but it has been suggested the power packs may need changing, hence not firing...Does this sound about right, and how much to replace? On both occasions, it has been left for at least 12 hours, and in very damp weather....Thanks. :)

Could be a number of things, my crank sensor failed, but did not show up any faults.

Check first of all that the coil packs aren't full of oil/water, but if they were, or the coil packs were failing, I would expect a misfire.

Sounds to me like the crank sensor though.

If I were a betting man I'd be placing money on the crank sensor .... the one item on this V6 that will leave you stranded without warning.

Sounds like yours is starting to fail .. change it sooner rather than later or it will fail completely and you will be stranded.

Yep, the coil packs have one coil per cylinder so for enough to fail to stop it starting would be highly unusual. Sounds like crank sensor to me too.

ok thanks, a bit worrying though as the crank sensor replaced barely 6 months ago.... :o

with a 'real' GM sensor or a pattern part?

Genuine Vx item or pattern ???  Pattern one .. you've been lucky it lasted this long !!!

Genuine only and fit as per the guide to avoid damage to the cable

If it wasn't supplied and fitted by Vx, precious little chance it was a genuine sensor, IMHO.

not done by Vx, but a reputable garage i have ben using for years...best thing to do then, buy it from Vx and have my local fit to save on Vx over-priced labour??????

Buy yourself and fit yourself ... 10 minute job and only one spanner needed plus a few cable ties....

Read the link I posted above ^^^^   it really is a very simple procedure

Do it yourself, follow MarkDTM's guide in the maintenance section, and get the satisfaction of knowing it's been done properly.

Would a crank sensor throw up a Tc light intermittently and be a pain to start because mine is having starting issues ?? Sorry to butt in
