hi guys and girls my 2.2 16v has tonite developed a misfire and the code reader is giving out code p0204 injector circuit open cylinder no 4. car has run fine until to day the camshaft sens needs replacing but thats not a prob and the cam cover gas needs doing. does this all point to dis pack that needs replacing or is it the same as V6 cam cover seal gone oil in plug wells.any other questions welcome as to car and all answers gratefully received. :)

Your most likey cause is that, oil has leaked and filled up the plug wells.
Pop the plugs out, its dead easy on the 2.2's - Check for oil or any water.
Whats the history on the cam sensor, its been changed? Was it for a genuine Vauxhall part?
-
thanks not sure on cam sens i only no it needs doing cos of limp mode when starting and very rare it does it. is the sorting out of the oil going to cure missfire or will itdo what itdoes to v6 and knak dis pack?
-
2.2's have a coil pack which sits in the centre of an engine, if its miss-firing its certainly not going to do it any good.
First things first, check the plug wells for any oil, and drain it. Best to use rolled up kitchen paper towels (buy loads of them!)
You will want to do the cam cover at the same time, have a go yourself if you not too bad with tools, I did it and know sod all about engines, my guide is here:
http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1225024176
Once that is done, see if it cures the miss-fire.
If your engine is going into limp mode, that does also point to an issue with cam sensor. (its a common failure on 2.2's)
Do you have any other codes stored?
-
thanks and no theres no other codes and doing cam gas is no prob i had a v6 so this one will be easy as to doing that one will have a go tomoz and see what results i get .

Good stuff, 4pot cam cover is breeze compared to those buggers on the V6. If no other codes, this should hopefully fix the issue :y

thanks need to do b4 tues aft as im back at work lol and whats the average price of plug pack?

Expensive, when I replaced mine a couple of years ago it was around £100 :'(
Mine failed at about 110k miles, not sure why but could see signs of it being burnt externally, although i had no codes, it ran generally fine, just would sometimes 'judder' under load.
Don't go replacing that yet, get gaskets and any oil out and some fresh plugs, go from there. Even then, most likey cause is cam sensor :y
-
thanks tunnie :y will have a look tomoz and i expected around that mark for one but i am in with a good motor factors and get some discount with them so im not too fused as i need the car running :)

aaaarrrrggghhh!!!! changed cam sensor, done cam cover gasket, cleaned plug wells and changed plugs sill has miss fire and same fault code so now going for new coil pack but can't get one till tomorrow will this be the end????? anyone???
-
Did you check all cabling and connector on #4 injector?
-
no could this be the main prob?
-
Someone had a similar problem recently and I went up to look at it for him. Tried another dispack and it ran perfectly. Is anyone local to you with a Desmond (4 pot) you could borrow the dispack off to test?
-
not that i know of, and have ordered coil pack now so may have to do more trial and error finding
-

Quite possible. Dodgy cam sensor won`t throw a code for any of the injectors. Have you checked for a feed to #4 inj
-

Why, the code is giving you the info. As said, make sure you`re getting power to the injector

have just been and had another look and have pluged code reader in again and it gave the same fault but for no 3 inj so i erased this and then started car and no fault light so im now thinking that this is going to be the coil pack would i poss be right with it doing that now??

If you've bought the new coil pack fit it and see, i along with a lot of the othere four pot owners have had similar problems. I changed the cam sensor and the car was fine for a good 20K or so and the coil pack started to fail on me at around 90K i replaced it with a known good second hand one.
Touch wood it's been all good since then, however i never had any codes about injectors stored :-/ :-/

yes will do i was just thinking that the cam sns had thrown that up with missfire and thas why the code/s have come up and now its been changed they have gone so coil pack its is and fingers crossed :-/

ECU is reporting injector electrical faults so that is where I would be looking. It does not need a camshaft signal to validate the state of each injector driver so the fault code is likely to be correct.
Check the connectors are pushed onto the injectors properly and that the locking clips are there (not some lazy bugger left them off previously) Look carefully at both wires to each injector, has one snapped?
Check the earth wires that attach to the fuel rail, are any broken, loose or corroded.
Follow the injector loom back, looking for any connectors, i think the 4 pot goes direct from the injector to the big engine loom connector by the battery so should be OK but I have seen broken / corroded wire on the V6s big injector plug & socket.
If the fault code has moved from #4 to #3 that suggests a bad earth or loose connector.
