cant get the drivers seat to go far enough forward for my dwarf girlfriend to drive "bruce" and after monday night it is her mode of transport till her audi is repaired.
Have had a look and there was a snot rag and pile of paperclips down the tunnel side of the seat, i got them out but am now wondering if there is more debris , unfortunately i cant see/reach so i need to know the correct procedure for removing the seat/runners if that is possible, its a 99 elite with airbags in the seat and am terrified i am gonna get splatted by an airbag :-/ :-/ please help
Thanks in advance

motor the seat fully one way and remove 2 securing bolts then motor it fully the other way. Disconnect the battery - you've 15 secs between turning the ignition off & disconnecting it otherwise the alarm will go off. Go & have a brew/smoke/walk/etc Unplug the seat and remove the other 2 bolts & that's it. :y
They're bloody heavy though. :-?

you need the seat all the way forward or backward to get to the front or rear bolts. If you send the seat all the way forward to remove the rear bolts and then disconnect the battery, you've no power on the seat to move it all the way back to get to the front bolts. :y

There are four screws holding the runners to the floor, will your seat travel far enough to access them all? If it will, remove the screws, then disconnect the battery and have a cup of tea while the capacitors discharge. After a break you can unplug the connectors and remove the seat.
Don't reconnect the battery until the seat is reconnected.
If your seat is not travelling forward enough to access the rear screws you need to look closely at the tracks to find the obstuction, that may save removal if you find it.
Do you have the manual winding tool? Might be worth trying if the motor can't move it far enough.

Have you raised the seat as high as it will go? and unclipped the roller blind from the rear of the seat (the bit the back seat passengers kick)?
I would rather stick my head under the seat with a torch and a mirror than try and take the whole seat out.

There is a sort of modesty flap on the back of the seat that is clipped to the seat base at either side to hide the mechanism. Unclip it and you should gain easier access under the seat.

Yep, raise the seat to its full height then look underneath the seat from the front, you will see the motor to the right (silver cylinder) in the front of the motor is a hole and in the hole is a square drive. I had to make a tool recently from an 8mm dia piece of bar, I ground it down slowly so it was square at the end and put a bend in the other end to make it easier to turn. Put the new tool in the hole of the motor and start turning, the seat will move slowly but surely ;)

thanks for all the help guys but i have fixed it woohoo :y :y :y
Basically i didnt have the seat tool, am shite with making things and didnt fancy taking the seat out in 10 inch of snow , SO i got a load of screwdrivers out, found one that fitted (a flatblade 5x150 was my preferred weapon ) and i know i am gonna get wrong as it has probably damaged the threads in the turny thing but it was a case of needs must!
Anyway i got it nearly far enough forward after an hour and a bad case of wa***rs cramp then i pressed the button and IT MOVED!! :y
When i got it all the way forward i found the obstruction( which was not visible using the torch and looking) it was this:-

So thats two problems fixed this weekend all by a numpty with little tools and less knowledge ;D ;D
Hence i have decided the car from this day forward shall be called Christine!!!!! :y :y
