i know my 95 2.5td rolling roaded recently @ 132bhp, only mod was decat, not bad for 15year old but what figures has anyone here achieved?

Mines chipped and i've binned the egr (not just the piping but the restrictive plunger in the egr), next up is the decat but i've never had it on a rolling road.

i know the omega is the detuned tds engine & management, and few people are recommend chippin which would bring it back up to about 150bhp, slightly above the 325tds etc.. but is it possible to use the standard tds file and map it, then write it back onto a fresh chip and fit it?guys here are getting the guts of 180bhp out of the 325tds, what is there stoppin it being done
same engine and components just diffent fuel mapping?anyone shine a bit a light on the subject

The standard 2.5td only has 130bhp and is quite slow cos it's a heavy car.
I went to Collins motor sport in Congleton where they reprogramed the e.c.u. which took the power up to 160bhp. After that I got an air filter made by KnN to match any increases in power (it's big), then got rid of the cat, the middle box and put an empty volvo backbox on (take all the wool out) and it sounds great. Next I put a plate in the pipe of the e.g.r. system so only clean air goes to the engine.
Thats it for now but a bigger intercooler is next to run with the old one still in place.
I took it to Well Lane rolling road last november with the MIG Northern crowd and managed to get 181bhp and 240lb/ft torque, not bad for a car that's now done 150k.''

The 325TDS maps I tried in mine didn't work. Even the Omega maps are not interchangable - there are 4 different ECUs fitted to UK spec Omegas (ie, U25DT and X25DT).
Never rolling road'd mine, pointless anyway due to autobox, so I'd be better just pulling figures out of the air.
The GM filter is hard to beat - surface area is massive, and cold fed. Pattern filters (as a drop in replacement for GM ones have around half the surface area). 'Performance' ones, eg cones, panels etc, also tend to lower performance, either due to surface area, or hot feed.
One mod defo worthwhile is playing silly beggers with the intercooler fan ;)

I take it by this you mean taking a intercooler from a 325td/525td and sticking it somwhere on the front :-?

I think he means adding a switch so you can force the I/C fan to be on instead of normally off :)

really down to a ''custom map'' and not a generic one, mines a manual gear box, ;)

right have been onto my man that usually does the chipping for me, says his figures will leave her in the region of 172bhp (128 bhp standard) and 320nm torque(250nm standard), and that was just chipping her, add on the decat and custom made exhaust, and try and get as much cold air into her as possible, should see me in the range of 180bhp
with such a huge increase it'll be down to the rolling road to see whats what

Blank the EGR, easy bit of an increase, I have removed most of the piping from mine too (I used some of the piping the seal the exhaust end... I need to remove the plunger from the intake end still, but worth an extra 3-5 bhp, for the cost of a small metal plate... The chip in mine reckons to increase the power to 170 bhp, I hadn't thought about the "fixing" the IC fan, could be worth a bit too...
I don't see the point of the rolling road tbh, just to get an accurate idea of where the engine is... I get enough fun embarassing the boy racers in there muppet motors trying to race away from the traffic lights...

i have already blacked egr and removed all its piping and welded up exhaust end, cat and middle silencer are removed an replaced with stainless and have plans for back box :y wanna wire up the IC fan aswel

I do covet a propane injection kit, but, the pennies at the moment are a little tight and they do run a few... Add about another 100bhp and a good amount of extra torque too...

did mine so long ago(5 years ) its difficult to remember,
however basically i put a spare air con switch(pic of a fan on it lol) in the dash, to a relay in the engine compartment and powered the ic fan via the relay, the light on the switch tells me its on, its all on a 20amp fuse inline, and on tech 1 i can watch the inlet temps come plummeting down when its switched on, and feel the difference when hitting the throttle, strangely enough it als helps when your off boost, i.e below 1400rpm it actually pulls quite well where the td normally is flat, however the downside(if you can call it that lol) is the ecu reads the inlet temps(on early ones like mine) and thinks the engine is cold so chucks more fuel in ;D and it pulls like stink!!! complete with a little bit of smoke out the pipes!! lol hope that helps :y

That certainly helps, now I know what's involved, but I would need more detail on how to wire up the relay, where do you take the power from to feed the fan/the switch. In other words an idiot guide. :-[

damnit this is the second time i have typed all this it took me 20 mins and pressed post and the damned internet connection had fallen out!! couldnt retrieve the post even in history so here we go again!!
now you must remember im getting old and fragile and have far to many senior moments ;D
but basicaly here is an idiots memory guide to wiring up the i.c fan,
as said i used a aircon switch as it fitted nicely in the dash so looked original, power for the switch came from the live ignition controlled radio wire as it was very close, then ran a wire through the bulkhead and up to the ecu box where i inserted a standard relay in the spare space there, the switch only switches the relay so needs no huge current, then ran a wire from the battery through a standard blade fuse again inserted into the fuse holder so it looks factory fit, to the relay, switched side of the relay ran wire across the front of the car under the fan cover at the front and across to the i.c. side just above the i.c is a rather convenient hole in the inner wing so went down through that to the i.c., then soldered into the original i.c wires,
after making sure the i.c fan worked with this arrangement i then cut the original wres and ran a seperate earth as i was worried about the cooling fans being backfed by the new switched control, this way there was no chance of that happening, this system ran for just over 5 years of almost continuos running (hot here is spain) before the fan motor finally cried enough, replaced it about a month ago whith one from the scrappy which had done no work as it was seized because of the stupid way, vaux controlled it, i.e not being switched on til the engine temp hot almost 100degrees, 5 mins work freed it off, then a ten minute run continously saw it nice and free, I always make a point of switching the i.c. fan on when ever i use the car, to prevent it siezing up again, as the rubber shroud directs all the crap and salt direct onto the fan in the winter its most important!!, ok while you under there you will note the i.c is very close(touching) the wheelarch protector which means there is nowhere for the fan to blow the hot ar out except against the protector!! so a few well chosen drill holes here will help expell the hot air from the i.c!! i started with just ten directly behind the i.c but increased it by a few more later, I could plug tech1 in and drive down the road and watch the inlet emps plummet with the fan switched on and feel the difference in performance!!! strangely enough cos the ecu reads the inlet temps on the early ones like mine, when you are off boost i.e below 1500rpm the ecu see cold temps and increases the fueliing so helps the low down torque!!
so there you have it :y

welcome buddy, just reread it and dont forget you will need to wire the ac switch up so the light comes on when its switched on!! otherwise its all to easy to forget its on!!! and of course you only want it on when you need a burst of extra horses or are about to climb a large hill, etc :y

well getting back on track now with the omega, if all goes to plan i'll be chippin her this weekend, have started on the ic fan mod and will be sending the diff of within this nxt few weeks to have my lsd built in [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif] anyone have any rollin road figure yet from chipping ther 2.5td
