hello again, right I went to staff's 100 odd miles, on way heater packed in and the temp went up to 100c then down to 90c, every time temp went to 100c bad smell came in car, if stuck at 55 temp would stay normal but at tick over it would go below 90 and above 70c,,, had look when got home and the flow to the heater is blocked on its take in, as the pipe could not be squeezed but engine flow seemed to be fine, has any one got any ideas thanks :-?

On the 4-pot, the gauge temperature sender, as you know, sits on the back of the 'chunk' on the back of the head that passes coolant flow out of the head towards the matrix inlet (via HBV if fitted). If the flow through the matrix is badly restricted, the temperature at the gauge sender may not be a reliable indicator of the 'average' coolant temperature around the engine.
Thorough, high-flow-rate, prolonged flush of the matrix would be my first action I think. And make sure you have enough antifreeze in the system afterwards.

it had a lot of anti-freeze in, just got some flush out and some concentrated red anti-freeze but dont know specific application information coolant capacity, says -56c protection for 5years made by silver hook chemicals, and got 10 litres of de-ionised water as it says to use it. flush out is in engine at mo just waiting for engine to cool down to rinse out engine,,,, when cleand out last time there was no rust water or any othere stuff come out and that was last month.?? :-?

just been at it and same thing no muck so put some viniga in heater with some hot water and now there is stuff coming out like orange flakes, just doing it again see if any more comes out, then do the main rad same,,, :y :y

all done now, 50% anti-freeze found the fault it was the fuel heater, tuck it all off only had pin hole to let water flow, and bits were falling off, but all clean now, even clean'd out the water bot as was brown inside, so fingers crossed it stays good for 5year now ;)
