Title: Power streering pumps.
Post by: Amigo on 11 December 2010, 22:12:07
Are they a weakness on Migs or is it just me? I've gone through 3 on 2 cars in 4 years. Fluid looks like gravy. Have i just had bad luck in fitting ones that are near the end? A little lock to lock kills them dead every time.
Should i do for a new/exchange one this time, VX or pattern & how much should i pay? :(

I think bad luck. I have had mine for 11 years and the pump went when it was about five years old.

In those days there wasn't an OOF so I just paid(through the nose) the VX dealer to fit a new one. It is still going strong.

have done well over half a million miles in Carltons and Omegas now - all with the same pump and never touched one yet.

must have changed ten steering boxes tho !

In approx. 6 years of Mig ownership, I havent had a problem with a PAS pump, although I think Johnnycboy had to change the pump on my car when he owned it.

Ours is leaking an occasional drop of fluid out of the shaft seal.  One day I may get around to doing something about it.
Doubt it will be soon though, it's been advisoried on the last two MOTs, but not got noticeably worse.  Reckon I'll just wipe it all down before next March's MOT.  :D

Well mine of course went stiff when my ABS ECU failed. Then after repairing it and putting new fluid in, it still was stiff sometimes especially when manoeuvring below 1000 rpm, now that the cold weather has become, it no longer does this funnily enough!
