Post by: weldit on 13 December 2010, 22:25:38
Hi Recently bought a 1996 2.5TD with auto box,the problem is that it needs to be revved fairly high before it changes up,it does not change untill it is around 2000rpm,i would imagine that this is not how it should drive,i would change the gear box oil but i can not see how to fill it back up,any help and advice welcome
Cheers Dave

Is your the ar25 box? I don't know when it's meant to change up but obviously from a cold start it'll hang on to a lower gear longer.

As for topping the oil back up, here is a guide on replacing the oil:

As your car is a '96 plate it might benefit from a software update, but other people on here know considerably more about that than I do.

Welcome to the forum by the way. :y

Is the 's' button turned off?

Hi and welcome.
Is problem only when engine is cold or continuous, is it low gears only?

TD's tend to chew up their autoboxes at around 120k...

That said, 2k sounds approx right to change up if cruising...
