Title: wishbone bolts
Post by: caran10 on 14 December 2010, 12:50:06
anyone know where I can get replacement nuts and bolts for lower wishbones on my mig . I tried the local vauxhall dealer in Coventry but they tell me you can't get them. Any help appreciated.

Just checked with Vauxhall and the vertical bolt is on back order

Check the rest of our group and know one keeps it either.

Also checked the Obstock site and the same story, no stock

Most people will say that they don't need to be changed but myself i always replace the nuts and bolt

Best thing to do it put the bolts on Back Order with your local dealer and they should be able to give you an ETA after 24hrs

Cheers
Andy

Thanks for your help on that one. The only reason i wanted to get new ones is
because someone told me that they sometimes snap and I dont want to be left in the brown stuff.
What about the horizontal bolt is that one available.

the only one that could potentially snap is the vertical one, as its a captive nut, the horizontal one could still be replaces if it snapped as the nut is accessable to be removed

Never used new ones when doing wishbones on my cars, just cleaned up the threads and a smidge of loctite on the horizontal one.

I've replaced loads and never had one snap, they'll be fine ;)

Never replaced the bush nuts and bolts yet, and have changed at least 6 sets of wishbones.

It does say to replace them in Haynes tbh, but it also says they stretch when tightening which they don't. 120 nm  then angle tighten 30 degrees then 15 (wheels loaded) is not much for a bolt that size. Wheel nuts are 110 and most tyres places do them up much more.

Use the old ones it will be fine.

You should be able to source these bolts from local engineering supplies people.
Take an old bolt in, and they'll no doubt have the correct grade too.

Local Vx people informed me that they cannot be back ordered, as there's none available globally ::)
