Title: slight missfire
Post by: msb1973 on 05 December 2010, 10:19:34
picked up the partners new car yesterday a 2000plate 2.5 cdx and i have noticed a slight missfire under load, drive it gently its ok anything more it feels like its on 5 cylinders, i spoke to the previous owner who had it 2 ish years and he never recalls it having plugs changed, would it be a safe to assume that its most likely the plugs are knackered?

Plugs, or cam cover gaskets have gone and the plugs are full of oil! Wip out the plugs, at £1.50 each they are cheap as chips  :y

yeah my mechanic guy said that he will clean the breathers, replace gaskets, replace plugs, replace the knackered battery and do a coolant change as the coolant when tested was only providing protection down to -5 to -10 which isnt anywhere near enough in  the present conditions :o, cost £300 all in

Still ask them what was done with cam seals. Pattern seal, bathroom sealant, instant gasket will all give trouble and further bills in future. You need to know.

genuine seals as far as i'm aware, no sealants, silicone etc used as i was told this can lead to more problems than its worth :y

Bloody things run for a couple of days then the missfires back, no fault codes, definatley confused now, suspect it may be coilpack or leads,is this a fair assumption? :(

either really, oil could have broken down the leads & in turn affects the coil/disspack.
surprised you havent seen me kicking around burton tbh. blue mv6. ;)

think its going to be replace the leads and coilpack tbh, might as well do both at the same time cant see the point doing one without the other. Can't say ive seen you round burton but only had the car a week or 2, will keep me eyes peeled, although the partner drives the omega mostly tbh :y
