Well, have nearly finished all the jobs on the car and Im well pleased with it all so far, no mishaps, nothing broken (at least nothing that wasnt already broken lol) got rid of all fault/check warnings leaving me with the cam belt as the last real job. Anyway, heres my first "Special Tool" lol. I stumled upon quite by accident

Coil PAC removal?
Too small for a coil pack Torx. Tool shown is 6mm / 1/4" , you need an 8mm socket for the coil pack ;)
-
There is a vague clue given lol, dont view it as in what you would normal use it for/with e.g. for use with screwdriver bits etc, you would use it "as is" to do a certain job.......... lol
-
Also, could someone place a time limit on how long this should run? Finish with the answer tonight? Or let it run, lol!

Barsteward bolt?

the worst job on the omega takes longer than half an hour, so yours cant be the worst. ::)

For compressing the bastard springs on the handbrake shoes in order to get the c#nting f#cking tw#at sh#t clips over the top of the pins?
What do I win?
Then again, cant be that because I'd have been jumping for joy if that job had only taken me 30 minutes.

What's the script with these handbrake shoe retaining pins? How can they be so much more difficult than ordinary rear drum brake shoes to do? :-/ :-/

never had any fuss with the pins and clips either, some people must be all thumbs ;D ;D

Congratulations V6 CDX-er! You win a free burial at sea with the woman of your choice! Lol! That is exactly what I used it for! I had effed about for so long doing one side, tyring to find the best/easiest way but still took ages (theres a surprise lol) so I stopped for a cuppa and a smoke after comlpeting that side. I was in the tool box gettin out some tools ready for the next job when I spotted that extension piece, I have never used that bit for the job it was intended for lol, I have used it to put those odd spring washers on, the petal sort if you know what I mean. Anyway, I looked at it and thought, hmmmm, I wonder...... lol! I already had the pin lined up to go through the spring cup, put the bit in a screwdriver handle, put the whole thing through the hole in the hub, pushed against the cup and turned, IT HELD! First time! Couldnt believe it lol! Checked to see if it was on, it was about halfway round in the slot, so another quick push and turn and that was it on at 90 degrees, was so amazed I did the other one straight away lol! What took nearly an hour took two minutes on this side! My tea wasnt even cold, lol! I can hear feet pattering all across the country as people rush out to try this as soon as theyve read this lol!

Son, i'm going to nominate you for the Nobel Peace Prize! ;D ;) :y

Damn! I was really hoping for the Darwen Award lol!

No idea Andy. In the end I had to cut a couple of coils out of one of the springs and modify a cheap pair of needle-nosed pliers quite severely with an angle grinder to do the job, and even then, even as drum brakes go, it was a very unpleasent job!

I wonder how much easier it might be then with the proper' tool for the job?

Kick a man whilst he's down why don't ya?
I'll forgive you if you can find a special and equally cheap tool that magicly removes stuck cam-covers.

Kick a man whilst he's down why don't ya?
;D I've never used one, I know they exist but I've always used the end of a pair of pliers
I'll forgive you if you can find a special and equally cheap tool that magicly removes stuck cam-covers.
I'd try one of these .....

Lol! I know what you mean V6 CDX-er, My first attempt with the springs on one side only took me an hour and a half just to suss it out to some extent as I was practising while waiting for the shoes to be delivered, so the day they came I was sort of ready for it so tackled that job first to get it out of the way, so was over the moon finding this method and now Andy B will be able to do his first ever brake change with relative ease lol!

I never said that! ;) I've done loads of brake shoes & pads, just never had the need to see the handbrake shoes on my Senators or Omega - that's what P is for ::) ::). I had a drum off my Astra the other week when I had a bleed nipple shear.

I was meaning your first hanbrake shoes change Andy, lol, you know you want to now you know of an easy way lol!Or think of it this way, its probably the only job you havent done on an Omega........ yet, lol!

I can't see that tool fitting through the little access hole in the wheel flange :-?
I think IAD has had a flash of genius. The screw bit holder has a little magnet in it which will serve to hold the slotted washer.
I did mine by pushing in the slotted washer using the extension bar from a 1/4" socket set. It would have been so much easier if it had been magnetic (or if I had another hand ::))

It's for the pins, springs & slotted cup washers holding the shoes to the back plate, the drum is off the car when you do that .... :-/ :-/ :-/

It would still have to go through the hole in the hub/flange even though the drum is off. ;)

[smiley=laugh.gif] Ah! I see now what you mean, and probably where the difficulty in fitting them is. :y :y :y
